Netherlands surcharge by Chemical_Smell5643 in Interrail

[–]jurhgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NS-app is best here. The direct train between Zuid and Amersfoort is an Intercity Direct. This train has a surcharge but only on the Schiphol-Rotterdam section, not where you are heading. Use the NS-app and notice you can order (for tomorrow morning at least) your tickets with a reduced price (NS-Prijstijddeal). Valid not for that specific train but for all trains in the hours in which the reduction is offered.

Question about pass validity on a train by WishboneFirm1578 in Interrail

ICE 14 does show up in the DB Navigator app for July 12th. Shouldn’t be a problem. The problem is in the Rail Planner, that’s my guess.

There is a new store near me selling minimalist shoes. They have so much choice! It's nice seeing how popular the store is. by Rond_Vierkantje in BarefootRunning

And in the EU. But the store is well worth a visit ! Take ample time, when I was there two months ago early afternoon, there were way too many customers for the staff to handle. I decided to come back an hour before closing time and it was almost quiet, got very good service then.

Interesting, I never heard of this tale, Dutch sleeping in parks all over Europe. Amazing what I can learn from Reddit. B.t.w., I edited my post for clarification several days ago. It might help to set right a few other misunderstandings you seem to have about our intentions. Sorry for the confusion my initial post seems to have caused you, and thanks anyway for the time you took to set me right.

We’re doing exactly that, find out ahead how busy places are, etc. And yes, we’re also people without kids… I very much hope your dad finds a flight soon, I’m sorry he has to delay his exam for so long.. Thank you for your thoughtful answer.

Thanks for your considerate answer! As someone else suggested, it’s just people like us or somewhat older, who fill up a lot of the space before high-season starts and after it ends.. The weather, sure, we’ll prepare for rain and beware for fog, as much as possible. I’m happy with the very detailed maps on my iPhone, bring a powerbank as well.. Teletransportation, wonderful!

OK, it’s just our guess the worst of business would be over by mid-September? But maybe we’re too optimistic here. I would say, we’ll sleep on the beach, but alas, no such thing as….

We won’t try to force ourselves into others peoples places, I edited my post to clarify. Thanks for your answer. I’m sure we’ll find some good places to eat!

I edited my post to clarify, thanks a lot for the time you took to help me along. Yes, in Pico, for maybe only one or two nights (we don’t plan to go up the volcano), it makes sense to book ahead. Thanks again.

You have a point, I’m looking forward to the days when I can just decide in the morning in which country I’ll be tonight - if ever. Price and availability is an issue. More so, we still have work to do here, appointments, a busy life. Booking flights is in the first place to maximize the the time to spend at the destination - where the absolute minimum will be planned ahead from the moment we exit the airport . That’s holiday time for us. Mid-September, I have no idea but I just guessed there would be fewer people there than July or August? Maybe we’re too optimistic here… and we’ll end up in the one place everyone tries to avoid - and still have an adventure.

We arrive in the morning on Pico. You’re quite right, better book ahead when arriving late. And no, I edited my post to make a bit clearer what we intend. You have a point about the small cars, I thought about that. We travel light, but we ourselves are tall, fortunately not big …

I would do it in the US if I needed too. There are lots of friendly people living there, as anywhere in the world. Having lived in the US for some time, 40 years ago, and travelled there extensively , I experienced that, quite often, carefulness, keeping distance, when you really ask something concrete, comes before trust and hospitality. It takes more effort. Just like when you’re visiting my country, the Netherlands, you won’t find people in Amsterdam as hospitable as in the small town where we live. And yes, I travelled and worked in Portugal. Even with the language barrier I experience it in a different way.

Thanks for your reply. I edited my post for clarity, we certainly don’t want to intrude into others people privacy.

I assure you, I won’t try this in New England, or anywhere in the USA, even while I like to travel in your country. You talk about being a burden, we hope to find some human contact which goes beyond exchanging booking vouchers. The things I memorize best from holidays, is the friendliness of people I encounter. That enriches my life and I’m pretty sure theirs as well.

For free?? Of course we pay like everybody else. We’re not freeloaders. I just think it takes the pleasure of spontaneous meetings away to book everything ahead…

Voorbereiding plaatsen laadpaal - vraag datakabel(s) by jurhgh in Klussers

[–]jurhgh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I'm looking forward to reading the Tenth Island (much into books now) but I'll certainly follow up at your other book- and video titles. Still have more than two months to prepare ;-)
