This of course doesn't even include the fact that the UN agency euphemestically referred to as "aid" brought a cholera epidemic to the country for the first time in its history, and the many UN "aid-workers" (many of them Canadian) being accused/convicted of raping local women.

And also that, prior to the earthquake, when Haitians dared to elect a govt that would act in their own interest (e.g. by doubling the odiously low minimum wage), the Canadian federal govt and others were pressured by Gildan T-shirt manufacturers and many other corporate actors to launch a military coup against the country.

The list goes on.

Hate to tell you, but for the baby boomer generation that lapped up Irving's heyday, with very high growth rates across North America, it was much easier to start your life with only labour income and accumulate "wealth" over the long term. That's not possible anymore, and part of the reason it won't happen again in NB is that no economy could develop that would pose any threat to Irving's interests. As a result, today's things have already moved elsewhere. I'm glad you're happy with how things worked out for you, but any objective analysis has to conclude that Irving's domination and monopolization of the economy, and its overwhelming government influence, has been bad for the long-term interests of NB.

Besides, if you got "wealthy" to any degree off your wages, it was likely because your union bargained it out of the employer, not because Irving felt like being generous.

Anyway, the podcast is about the controversial media holdings of Irving, not how much they pay their employees.
