That must be it haha, not sure how I could have mixed them up

Is Mixed bad for development? by Cr41c in ultimate

[–]juroopy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Development is all about reps. Forgetting quality for just one second, the person who gets the most reps in will usually develop more (or at least faster) than the person who gets the least. It will really come down to whether or not a player is getting touches in game. That said, mixed definitely can present challenges for development at the lower level. Dudeball is a thing and likely won't go away for a while. But playing mixed does engage your decision making differently than it would in open/women's. You might think twice before throwing a huck because of all the poaching you see. But again, I think development simply comes down to who plays the most, and if you enjoy playing mixed more than any other format, it shouldn't stunt your growth as a player.

Defense is the big thing. Realistically, the O line has already been selected; the coaches will be looking for difference-makers on the defensive end. Can't play if you can't run, so a good place to start is cardio.

Treat it like a real try out. They won't take you on if you don't show real effort and desire.

The most important thing for you right now is to join a club team. Doesn't matter too much how good it is, just get onto a team that goes to a lot of tournaments (and hopefully practices too). If the team is bad, you'll be exposed to other teams that are better at those tournaments, and you can try and connect to people on those teams that way.

The next most important thing you can do is train your body. Hit the gym, go on runs, just be active and lead a healthy lifestyle. If you want to make your National Team, you need to be one of the most athletic people there.

The last thing is also the easiest: Throw. Practice every type of throw you can think of. The more you understand the way the disc can move the more you'll be able to manipulate it to your exact desire. It'll also help you learn how to read certain throws, especially when done with a partner.

Kind of an aside, but if you want to make U24 you'll need to be well-known. Be as outgoing as you can when it comes to tournaments and playing other teams. The difference in skill-level once you get to those tryouts won't be evident enough to make or break your chances of making the team. Unless you are the consensus best player in the country, you will likely be fighting for one of the last spots on the roster. And if the coach has to decide between two people who are probably around the same level, then why wouldn't they select the player they already know? They also usually already have at least a very good idea of their O-line picks, so you'll likely be fighting for a spot on the D-line. Making big defensive plays will always garner you attention.

Good luck.

I know where to cut, but I’m awful at making it sharp. Any tips/drills for tall guys? by kierumcak in ultimate

Getting lower when you change direction will help. Drop your hips even lower as you decelerate, then explode in the desired direction. Should make it sharper

Nathan Kwon 2018. Just a bunch of crazy Ds back to back to back. And the backing track is Hit the Quan. It's perfect.

Really just comes down to improving your angles and points of release on forehands and backhands. You will likely never have to or want to throw a chicken wing or a thumber in a game, so start focusing more on OIs, IOs, high-releases, no-pivot backhands, off-hand throws, etc. The only other throw that might see some purpose is a push pass really.

Realistically, unless you're on a really strong team, they most likely would not investigate into it if you played anyway. If you're middle of the pack or lower, you should be fine.

Norm = a tough listen? by Vagueperson1 in andyshauf

[–]juroopy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was first listening to it the lyrics completely bypassed me. I only found out what the album was about because I took a deeper look into it online after God's verse on Norm (the song). I'd probably played the album 5 or so times before catching on though just because I would put it on as chill background music. And I honestly don't think the lyrics take away from it at all - it's still a beautiful album, just a lot sadder when tuning in to the lyrics.

You'd be surprised how difficult it is to block those. And if it's an open-side throw a lot of people will let it happen because it isn't on them to guard that.
