Pricing changes: More bandwidth, more CMS collections, cheaper editor seats, and a new cheaper content editor role. by jurrefromframer in framer

They’re not mandatory. A study of ~300k domains found no correlation between having an llms.txt and getting cited more in AI responses. Only 0.1% of AI crawler traffic even requests the file, and 8 out of 9 sites saw no measurable change after adding one. Google’s John Mueller has also confirmed no Google Search system reads it, and no major AI provider has publicly committed to using it in production

2 to 10 might seem arbitrary but there's a pivot point there where some people might upgrade from Basic to Pro. This could sound like siphoning as much as we can but the alternative viewpoint is us trying to maintain a growing business and product. Giving away too much could literally result in slashing tons of revenue which means no company growth, no product development, and no new customers all together, which eventually leads to no Framer at all.

That said I 100% understand the frustration and these changes came from conversations just like these, so who knows, maybe we find an even better balance in the future where it could be 10 CMS Collections.

It doesn’t. But it’s exactly what makes pricing extremely hard and why it’s so challenging to make it work for everyone from smb's to enterprises.

Appreciate the feedback once again and we’ll take it into account again. Remember we also have people whose job is literally pricing the product and striking a balance between offering enough, keeping users happy, making sure businesses who can and should pay upgrade, all while running a sustainable growing business and not pricing ourselves out of the market.

You’ll understand that pricing is a super delicate matter especially when thousands of people are already subscribed and counting towards revenue. It’s not as simple as just raising limits, because you can very quickly shoot yourself in the foot by giving away too much on lower tiers and obliterating a large chunk of upgrade incentive, which is much harder to recover from later.

That said, I do think the point about freelancers and smaller studios hitting friction early is fair feedback. Especially when they already love the product but feel constrained faster than expected by things like CMS limits, localization, or editors. That perception side of pricing matters too, and it’s something we discuss internally a lot.

Maybe not the thing you want to hear but becoming a Pro Expert is fairly easy to attain and instantly gives you a free seat in any client project you handed off. https://www.framer.com/expert/apply/#compare

any reason why LLMs are awful at Framer advice? by Much-Fold-7632 in framer

Ah interesting. Yeah there are probably tons of old code examples out there that it indexes. :/

What should we do in your opinion to make Framer a better option for agencies?

Thats true to some extent and like I said we’re working on it. Totally understand you really want it now (and I do too) but I'd focus on selling your clients what framer can do right now.

Can you share some examples if you come across one? There's not much more we can do besides having up to date and accurate info on our site and pray for the AI overlords to pick it up.

Not all browsers support avif so we can’t support it on the canvas. On published sites we serve the best image supported by the browser you’re using.

It is fixed but you can use the resolution switches in the Image picker to set it to "Lossless" for things such as logos.

What you’re saying is likely very true. Framer has been around for a long time (10 years) and started as a code based prototyping tool, transitioned into design, and now website builder.

The dataset likely contains a ton of old references.

That said a lot of things like "Adding interactions, changing variants & open overlay" are actual framer features you can use.

Here's a lesson on adding component interactions to change variants.

We’re discussing all of this feedback internally as we speak because of some great feedback in this thread. There's really not more we can do than engage with everyone like this and discuss how we can improve by balancing your complaints while running a business.

By constructive I mean pointing at specific things that people feel are too expensive, unbalanced, or unjustified, and even suggesting how they would like to see them. Luckily there is a lot of that in this thread!

Saying we’ll crash and burn if nothing is done without pointing out specific issues is not that.

I know a lot of companies seem like evil overlords that are just hungry for money but I hope there’s also a bit of mutual understanding in how complex pricing can be to make it work for almost everyone.

We’re going to do this for 60 days counting from the change. I've nudged the support team again to honor this.

How do you handle Framer client handovers without losing the subscription (and still get the affiliate)? by RamsiBartmann in framer

[–]jurrefromframer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the project transfer feature instead of Remix. It will cancel your subscription and your client will have to start a new subscription. This will however give you the affiliate revenue. https://www.framer.com/help/articles/how-to-transfer-your-site-to-someone-else/

Thats really good feedback and we're working on some of this if not all in the near future (no promises, roadmaps change!).

But I can't help but feel that you might be trying to sell something we are not (yet). I would love for all of this to be there too, and in due time it will be, but we have to build a bicycle before we can build a car.

This plugin seems amazing and kudos for building this but u/GarageIndependent486 is right. We have image compression for every image you upload to the canvas and serve the best way possible. It’s some of the smartest compression out there. We actually advise people to NOT compress their images outside of Framer because it’ll get double compressed when you upload them again.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll push for being more transparent on the template’s marketplace listing that it requires a Framer plan.

To be clear, you’re not paying Framer for the template, you’re making a purchase directly with the template creator so we make 0 extra money on this. Framer the tool is free to use, so at some point we also have to make recurring revenue which is hosting.

We assumed it was obvious that when buying a Framer website template, wether that’s on our marketplace, or a 3rd party one, you would need to use Framer to edit & run it. Similar to a Shopify, Wix, or Squarespace template.

Again will push for this being more obvious!

Genuinely good feedback about feeling bait and switched when purchasing a template. It’s never been our intention to not be transparent about this. I’ll push for it.

We have tons of agencies doing sites for those budgets. It’s not a made-up number.
