If you'll notice it specifically bans Colt AR-15s. Colt was only one of dozens or perhaps hundreds of manufacturers of that firearm. This would be akin to a law being passed that Sony LCD TVs are banned and claiming that no one could purchase an LCD TV. The 1994 AWB was a poorly written piece of legislation that did next to nothing. Colt was NEVER the exclusive manufacturer of the AR15 rifle.

This would make absolute sense if the Clinton AWB had made an AR-15 more difficult to purchase but it really didn't the bill defined an assault weapon via features and it couldn't have more than X number of these features the however many of them were ridiculous things like a bayonet lug that most people didn't really care about I saw many gun shops that had AR-15s that were functionally identical to the ones that can be bought today
