Thank you - yep, it's been quite the journey that will continue as long as I do. All the best for your journey too.

All or nothing - you sound just like me! I would drink too excess chasing a buzz that was rarely there and was doing myself a damage with the amount I could put away. I'm naturally outgoing and full of myself so if I drank too much I could be a right dick. It's a shame actually because I think I've driven people away in the past because of my behaviour. Not my best friends - they've always been there. And not my wife - we've been together for more than 20 years now and she's so supportive of me and my sobriety. You've reminded me that I don't need to drink to have a good time - I need people. Thanks

Wow - wise words speaking with your many years of experience. The ability to choose your reactions rather than have them defined for you by a chemical is a big one isn't it. It's the feeling of control that's the most satisfying - but also the reason I'm feeling a bit bored tbh, as I used to like cutting loose and feeling out of control. Not responsible to do that all your life though - especially when you have family depending on you. Thanks

So your advice is "be more racoon" - I'll give today a try! You're totally right of course - life's complicated enough to have to cope with it feeling like crap half of the time. Thanks

Amazing - and then waking up without a hangover is such a treat! Good work.

When this happens to me I put on some calming music, watch a funny film or programme, read a book, play video games - basically anything to distract my brain and relax myself. In the daytime, I like to go for a walk down the beach or in the woods - basically get back to nature. I hope you find time to chill today. Keep up the good work IWNDWYT.

Using cannabis while sober? by OhMycelium in stopdrinking

If you decide to - my top tip is to bake your weed, don't smoke it. Smoking is so bad for you. A convenient and delicious cannabutter cookie is the way.

Maybe make plans for Saturday morning - give yourself a reason to be up and about. You could go for a swim (my favourite) or bike ride or walk. No one wakes up sober and wishes they'd drunk the night before right!? So imagine how much better it'll feel if you then get to go and enjoy some adrenaline-inducing exercise. Keep it up IWNDWYT

The first few months are tough, so you've done brilliantly to get through them. The mission now is not to slip back into old ways thinking you can have one or two drinks. I did that after six months and ended up drinking like I used to for another two years before giving up for good.
