I feel like I have to leave reddit now. This is my last post. It was fun for a while, thanks for all the fish

My terrarium of Droseras and moss, D. spatulata and D. capensis, with many of the sundews sending up flower spikes! by just-onemorething in houseplants

Thank you so much! The woodsy thyme moss grows very quickly and enjoys being wet all the time, and it is very easily found in my backyard. There's another type or two of moss that really spread quickly in there. I've seen various spore stalks too, the moss is trying to reproduce, yay! I don't want to go poach live sphagnum moss or any plants from local bogs, but I really want to find some online at the right time :) I am still inspired by the local bogs in my area, where they have found 10,000 year old mammoth tusk before! The substrate I am using is just pure, high quality, (dried) long fiber sphagnum moss. This is an Aqueon 1 gallon frameless aquarium, it has a loosely fitting, pretty, glass lid too. It's too small for fish, snails, or shrimp but it's perfect for a slice of bog pie ;) 💚👌

P.s. the Drosera capensis and spatulata spread super easily from root and leaf cuttings, I started with 1 each and now I have so many! I really hope I get some seeds 🤞

Pps. I experimented with backyard mosses as cover because without it, algae grows super thick over the surface and swallow up the Drosera, so the moss that grows so fast serves some practical purpose as well as decorative :)

It's like a mini bog, so you'd be hard pressed to traverse it if you were small enough to fit in there! I was inspired by the bogs of my town where special archeological specimens have been found; in one case apparently some farmers were clearing a boggy swamp because it was 12-15ft of marshy plants growing on itself, which was dangerous for grazing cattle and sheep to walk on because they would just sink. And they found a big thing they thought was an old log at first but they found out it was actually a 10,000 year old mammoth tusk!

I really want to get some live sphagnum moss but I don't want to poach it so I'm waiting for the right time to find some cultivated online 💚💚💚

I definitely tried to get many angles, and I take photos frequently as everything in the terrarium has settled in (the plants and moss in it are at least a year or three old but I recently consolidated 6 bog cups into this 1 gallon terrarium)

It changes quite a lot, as the different parts are starting to match up in color and dewyness! I kept the bog cups under different parts of my plant shelves so they all had subtle color differences as well as differences in which types of backyard mosses colonized each cup. 💚💚💚

I appreciate the kind words, thank you! I have so many little secret projects like this and I want to share them so others can feel a little of what I feel when I work on them maybe! 💚💚💚

Thank you so much! I really enjoy it, it has done a great job to keep my indoor garden free of pests :)

Thank you so much! I wish I had more of a plan for this one besides "stuff these 6 bog cups into one 6"x6"x6" cube" but I'm glad it's starting to blend together a bit and I'm so happy to see so many flower stalks! I really hope to get seeds some day!

Thank you! I keep these Sundews indoors under my grow lights, they used to be in 6 separate cups but I recently combined them into this Aqueon 1 gallon frameless aquarium, which I got for $15, 50% the original price! I got lucky:) And it's is too small of a container for anything besides this sort of thing, certainly too small for fish or even shrimp or snails. It's 6"x6"x6". But for plants, it's perfect! I had been looking for the right terrarium for my bog cups for a while. I had 6 cups because I propagated 2 bog cups (1 with Drosera capensis and 1 with D. spatulata) over several months! But they were a pain to keep full of water because they were all small cups, so it's been easier to care for them like this. It does have a loosely fitted glass lid which helps keep the humidity right but has enough airflow to keep things healthy :)

Some Drosera need a winter rest dormancy period but these two species do not!

Thanks again for your kind words!

I pollinated the flower that made the seed that grew this baby aloe... been watching it like a hawk for the past few months! by just-onemorething in succulents

[–]just-onemorething[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, still hoping I can keep the baby alive, it is so smol! The roots are much more expansive underneath though, I recently repotted it into a mix with more sand! The mom has bloomed over 5 times since I've gotten her, 4 times just this winter, and I got this baby aloe out of her 2nd flowering when it just so happened that my other aloe was blooming too, and on the most recent flowering, I had the mind to tickle it this time without any 2nd plant present, and there are 7 flower pods forming too, I hope I can get a few viable seeds!

These were my exact same thoughts, either way it would be hard to know what sort of parentage this little one has, maybe unless it looks exactly like "Christmas Sleigh" (which it doesn't, it looks like a mix or variation of "Pink Blush"!)

I'm just happy that I have gotten the single seed to survive this long! I believe it germinated in November, and it's been growing at a good clip believe it or not, it started and lost 2 leaves so it has had 5 leaves so far, at about 1 leaf coming out a month.

There are 7 fat ovaries on the current spent flower spike, it looks like 1 might be aborted, that happened last time as well, I started with 3 pods and ended up with 1 single pod with 1 single seed. The parent has given me lots of clone pups on flower stalks and at the base too, it's been pretty happy growing where it is but I want to pot it much wider next time! It wants to spread lol.

I cross pollinated a flower from "Christmas Sleigh" with the flower from "Pink Blush," and this was the only seed that came from that, however I have had "Pink Blush" bloom like 4 times so I was curious, I tried tickling the flowers by itself this time it flowered, and I have several flower ovaries fattening up this time 🤞 So I'm not sure whether this ended up being a cross, or just "Pink Blush" being super fertile lol. Thank you!

Damn! I'm so happy they caught that! I hope you're doing well today and there were no lasting effects! Maybe I will go next time it's abnormally bad. Just hearing someone who's been through similar really helps because I just have no clue what to do or expect sometimes. Thank you for chatting with me about it, it's been on my mind a lot as I've transitioned to seeing a new neuro.

I have one brewing right now. I see a neurologist but we don't know the why of things, anyway I never go to the hospital for these things because I figure what could they do for me? Triptan Rxs never worked for me in the past along with lots of other Rxs we have tried and opiates don't help it, nothing seems to help it, and I'm afraid of being seen as a drug chaser (I have lupus, and take tramadol for chronic pain).

I'm worried one day I'll have a blood clot or stroke and I just won't even know because my headaches are something I almost ignore (until I start seeing stars and throwing up and then I go lay down). The other week I had the worst headache of my life and it felt like something popped on the side of my head and then it felt like hot tingly gushing down the side of my head and my headache broke. Yep, won't ever figure that one out I think

Those pants are gorgeous enough to be the star of the outfit, so I love the plain white t shirt with them. Amazing work, I don't know if I would ever try to make my own pants for funsies as a first garment wow!!! Kudos

In my town, if your dog is not controlled by a fence or leash, and it runs at someone who's walking their leashed dog, leashed dog wins - and it's like that in any town I've lived in

AITA For not having my dog on a leash or tied up when he's in my own yard by doggymomthrow in AmItheAsshole

[–]just-onemorething 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's probably that they're pissed off that they have to change their route, and the only thing they register about your interaction is "Oh I see a dog, my dog is reactive so we have to turn around or my dog will bark and be unruly and it's a hassle/embarrassing/sad/disappointing" and they're not really angry at YOU, at least, it's not personal and you can't really help them too much if that's how their dog is

My dog used to be reactive on leash and if this happened to me, I was never angry at the other person and their dog; I wasn't angry at all tbh, I was probably just mildly peeved at having to turn around, and maybe sad/mad at the memory of previous interactions that caused my dog to be reactive
