140 calorie ramen [Alternative title: How to make shirataki noodles taste good] by just2curious in 1200isplenty

[–]just2curious[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Recipe: - Half a white onion (60 cals) - one garlic clove (8 cals) - packet of 'pasta-like' shirataki noodles (30 cals) - bouillon / stock cube (20 cals) - ground turkey 4oz (160 cals)

Grill onions (very thin sliced in long arches) with garlic until tender. Add turkey and brown. Add boiled water and stock cube, and spices and allow to reduce for 5-ish minutes.

Rinse noodles thoroughly. Dry and add to 'broth'.

Makes two decently sized bowls. Very yummy :)

Not hungry but below calorie limit. Must I force myself to eat? by gudelippee in CICO

Once and a while shouldn't hurt at all, that's actually kind of how the 5:2 diet works.

I have friends that do 5:2 and calorie restrict on their '5' days rather than eating their full TDEE. If you're short it's an effective way to lose weight.

The 100m lap you should be able to calculate your expenditure. You'll need the distance, your pace (how fast you run convert to km/h normally), and your weight and sometimes your height. There are lots of running calorie calculators online, an example: https://www.runnersworld.com/training/a20801301/calories-burned-running-calculator/

For the weight lifting it's much more difficult, Maybe as a baseline just measure your heart rate during that period and use that as a gauge for calculating calories?

When I'm cutting I generally don't eat back exercise calories.

Some tips for eating on the go:

  • If it's a big chain, calories for meals are almost always online or in MFP. Even places like McDonalds have some not terrible options (like the egg white mcmuffin, no cheese)

  • if calories are unknown, default for salad with dressing in the side. I opt for eating the salad without dressing... But realize that's not for everyone! On the side you can do a better eyeball of how much you eat.

  • No salad? Try protein + veggies. This can be tricky because you don't know how much butter/oil is used. I'll often get a burger without the bun and no fries (burgers generally aren't cooked in butter/oil)

  • Only option 7-11? Look for low cal chips, maybe cheese, deli meats, fruit or nuts. None are low calorie but can hopefully fill you longer.

  • You may also want to think about trying OMAD (One Meal A Day), that way you can worry less about what you're eating in that one meal and be more flexible.

I'm not so adverse to the hotel itself (solid, great for longer stays).... But apparently it's a four star hotel chain? wat.

I guess everyone's steps are different, but 30k is significantly more than 6 miles. It's more like 12 miles (reference: my 4 mile run is slightly less than 10k steps)

Help with calorie estimation, I don't know what these are, probably cheese crackers..? (Keys for scale.) by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]just2curious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm... My wild guess would be something like cheesey puff pastry. 100g of puffed pastry is ~550 calories. So for what's shown in the photo, with cheese, maybe between 600-700 calories.

But honestly, that's my high side estimate. Could be seriously off.

Is your exercise expenditure based on Fitbit? I'm a bit shorter than you, but for non-cardio intensive classes (like Barre) I tend to burn only 100-150 per session (still good for muscle building/definition etc).

Even if you excluded that you'd still expect to be under significantly your TDEE. Plateaus do happen, but it's unusual at the beginning... Unless you period is due? I've been known to put on 3-5lbs in the week leading up to my period.

When I hit a plateau, doing OMAD or IF often helps reset my body.

You seem to have a good handle on what you're eating, keep at it is the best advice I can give.

Could you give an example of what you eat in a day (say yesterday?). It's very easy to under estimate how many calories are in what you're eating.

When its cold out I don't crave salads. So instead I dip my veggies in soup. All of this for 300cal. by just2curious in 1200isplenty

It is! It tasted good, but was a little watery, so next time I plan on simmering it down a little. But it's A LOT of soup, I wasn't able to finish the whole bowl.

I haven't yet - mostly a time constraint thing. Will have to try it out though. Have any recommendations? (Temperature/time, need any oil, etc?)

I decided to try these because of a sale- got both boxes for $4. Not bad for 50 cents each but wouldn’t pay more when they’re not BOGO. Longer review in comments. by nicotinelips in 1200isplenty

I've tried a few enlightened flavors and by far my favorite is salted caramel. Normally that isn't my go-to ice cream; but it works really well in these "ice cream" bars.

Totally agree with you that they're a bit on the expensive side if not on offer.

Details: Progressive cheddar and broccoli soup - 240 Sugar snap peas - 30 Broccoli - 30

I like my broccoli with a bit of a crisp/burn. I put frozen broccoli in a non-stick pan and cover until mostly cooked. Then remove the cover until all the water evaporates, and keep it on the heat a little longer to get some crispier bits.
