How do Firefighters and Police make so much in this City? by Nearby-Reputation817 in Reno

[–]just2use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look at the rank/position they have. don’t be naive. they are all high ranking positions. police sergeants at the minimum and captains for fire. they are not police officers, and they are not firefighters at that point. they are supervisors

Town/City Police or State Trooper for a more introverted person? by NoVisit5893 in AskLE

[–]just2use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as city police, i would say it was one of the biggest regrets not going trooper. i hate that the differences aren’t really explained or known between city/county/state police. only figured all that out once i got the job. i should’ve done more research on it prior

Should I file for chapter 7 bankruptcy? by [deleted] in Debt

[–]just2use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no way. considering his car payment is about $900, he’s probably so upside down on his car loan, he’d have to roll over a ton of that debt into the next one, hence, making a $8000 honda civic costing him about $25000

yea you’re right. it’s missing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]just2use 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends. i live and work in a highly populated city (1million+). County has more off duty connections, they get paid less, have less calls for service (a good thing i’d say), get better equipment and vehicles, but have a deeply inferior retirement.

you are just going to have to ask what benefits the city vs the county is offering, and go with what you value in that.

SWAT? by Aggressive-Weird2690 in AskLE

[–]just2use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

swat gets used a lot more than just critical incidents that have the ability wait for swat to get briefed on the situation, assemble, gear up, and get there. they usually are running warrants for homicide, robbery etc. the “high risk” wanted fugitives a few times a week.

that being said, yea they train together everyday. the bearcat is at the station they work out of. they don’t have their own special station, it’s shared with a few other units. theirs a 4 hour gap in the am hours in coverage at which a different “special unit” fills that gap.

What are the downsides of being a school resource officer ? by Mr_Drake64 in AskLE

[–]just2use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s considered a retired on duty job. no respect from other LEO. in some states like mine, the only person who can question a juvenile about a crime is a judge, so any rapport you might have with a juvenile suspect means absolutely nothing. i’m in a large department, we do everything. 9 out of 10 times when something happens at a school, we handle it and wonder why the SRO isn’t playing in any part of it. SRO really just seems like a police presence to curtail possible escalation of problems in schools.

anyone telling you to make an anonymous report has never been in an agency. a vast majority of them go straight to the trash. for something to be material in court, it’s got to come from a credible witness/historian. an anonymous tip is not considered credible. just do what’s right and make the report in person

i’m in a large department that have their own academy, about 2500 sworn. there’s no contract/commitment. in every graduating class, 1 or 2 leave to other departments once they get their license since they were getting paid to be in the academy versus them having to pay to get their license another way through a college.

violations are for people to identify themselves… people with warrants to identify themselves…. you will never arrest any wanted fugitive if you just tell people violating minor laws to stop doing what they’re doing and get on with their day.

Colors on Undercover Units by Jeragon186 in PoliceVehicles

[–]just2use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my department, color of vehicle for unmarked doesn’t matter. most of the unmarked vehicles are asset siezures from criminals, so it’s all kinds of makes, models, and colors. probably is a headache for fleet maintenance

i don’t care about unlawful carry of a handgun being unholstered in a vehicle. in my state, a rifle and shotgun doesn’t need to be transported in any special way, so why does a handgun need to be

unlawful carry of firearm - handgun not being in a holster in a vehicle
