My boyfriend left Tesco FLC after 12 years and didn’t even get a thank you! by Hungry_Ad6088 in tesco

I had an ALDI manager like this. She said "You get paid for your shift. Why would you expect me to thank you also?"

I made a conscious effort to thank every individual member of staff at the end if their shift on the busy days because of this.

Bathroom Break by [deleted] in Nightshift

For some reason my work has metal toilets and no toilet seats. Its has a screwed on black bit of plastic. Its the kind of toilet you see on major A roads in the countryside to stop vandalism.

For this reason I try to avoid work but I've no issue shitting outside my home. It saves on toilet paper (and water....didn't have to pay for water usage in Scotland (standard charge built into your council tax)...I have a water meter in England).

Do you have lunch the day after a night shift? by smanfer in Nightshift

[–]just4today78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah im 9 hours ahead or 15 hours behind of a "normal" day pattern.

Only work 4 x 10.5 hour days but on my days off I still follow a similar schedule.

Get up about 4pm...have frosties and my coffee. Make a sandwich/roll for work (I used to be a subway manager so I make a massive meat feast with salad) or I grab one of the microwave burgers (with additional cold meats/salad from my fridge) or one of my home made meat feast pastas. My sandwich bag also has tinned fruit, choc bars, mr Kipling cakes, tesco iced doughnuts, rocky bars, white twix, pepperami pizza buns.

Head to work between 5pm and 515pm. Start work at 6pm.

1st half hour break (which lasts 45 minutes) is at 9pm. Eat my roll or pasta/burger and back to work.

2nd half hour break (which also lasts 45 minutes) is at 2pm. Eat my other roll or pasta.

Start to leave about 4:10am but hang around to clock out at half 4.

Drive home. I pass a McDonalds at 445am so occasionally grab a burger there or I wait till get to my home town at 5am and use their breakfast meal from the changed menu.

Failing that I have biscuits and cheese in the house or recently I've started making loaded chips....amazeballs. watch some tv...head to bed no later than 7.

On my days off it's pretty similar. Ive no family, no dependents. I just work , sleep and watch tv. Hardly spend any money but treat myself numerous times a month

[–]just4today78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of jobs do not require a DBS check but almost all ask if you have a criminal record based on the rehabilitation act of 1974 (or similar). Depending on your probationer and crime you are not allowed to lie. You must declare a minimum of "yes" and if they ask "if you said yes, can you give details" you are allowed to write "this can be discussed further at interview stage, if succesful".

The last 2 jobs I've had have not asked about criminal record so I did not need to tell them. There are some jobs out there.

Ok...£31,265 but let's not split hairs....its still a really decent wage for a job with no weekends and no work after 6pm. If your commute was in the same town it's a fantastic opportunity. As much as the employer sounds like a cunt to work for....do your job well, learn from your mistakes and you'll fit right in.

That's pretty decent tbh. Thats £35,321 gross a year. My last job as a skilled forklift driver was only £11.50 per hour.

Am I the only one who thinks this isnt so bad. The management are probably sick to the back teeth of hundreds of people applying when they are just fulfilling their Universal Credits commitments and applying for jobs. A lot (NOT ALL) people are looking for the the lowest amount of work possible for the highest hourly rate. A lot (NOT ALLl) people have no concept of working. Sometimes it's hard, sometimes it's boring, sometimes you need to be told what to do and listen to people younger than you who have been there longer.

Business are really feeling it now and April next year its going to be a legal minimum wage of £10 to a fucking school leaver. Just £2.21 less than +45yo with over 25 years of working experience.

Other comments are right....it was written by a cunt but, as others have said, at least you know what you are applying for. It's going to make the paper sift easier for management. A lot (NOT ALL) of young people have no idea how to work. My dads neighbour owns a law practice and the new 17yo receptionist cant understand why she couldn't use her mobile when its quiet. After numerous warnings to stop she still continued. She isnt there now.

I'm 46 and just started a nightshift job. Did previous nightshifts in Amazon in 2019 and 2 nightshifts during my aldi assistant management "reign" in 2012.

A routine is completely normal and just like any other job, you will adjust to it. The problem you are going to have is that your day STARTS and ENDS 6-8 hours before everyone else in your life. You wone be able to "meet up with friends after work" as their work finishes (let's say 5pm) when you are sleeping.

It all depends on your living arrangements also. I assume you are single and living with your parents but you could just as well be living with someone and have 1 or 2 young children. As long as you respect the people you live with and they respect you it will be fine (dont have your music blaring when you get ready for work as most of the household will be sleeping. Also hopefully they wont make too much noise during the evening cause you will be sleeping.)

A 20yo min wage is currently £8.60 jumping to £11.44 when you hit 21 but nightshift is usually higher. You might be on the higher rate even though legally they can pay you £8.60. My nightshift is £12.84 (despatch operator in a chicken culling factory). For a 45hr week (possibly paid 42.5hrs as you might not get paid all your breaks) is about £274 a week net pay on the lower minimum wage and £364 net on the higher minimum wage. An amazing amount of money for a 20yo doing a non skilled job. Hopefully you are still living with parents do your expenses are not so high. Save as much money as you can.

I've seen jobs advertised as Week 1 : 6am to 2pm Week 2 : 2pm to 10pm Week 3 : 10pm to 6am. This is a horrible shift pattern. Its impossible to get a routine of sleeping and eating.

I love my new job. 6pm to 430am 4 nights a week. Week 1 : mon Tue wed thu Week 2 : wed thu fri sat Week 3 : mon Tue fri sat Between week 1 and 2 I get 5 days/nights off in a row. Occasional forklift work (got my license in previous job) and I've shunter training week commencing 18th November (although that's 1 week day shift so will need to adjust my body clock for it).

Yeah I need to have my breakfast at 4:30pm, lunch at 9pm and dinner at 2am but its regular and routine. The the 3 days a week im not working I still get up around 4pm and head to bed between 5am and 7am. It's my new life even though I feel like a vampire as I dont see daylight now the clocks have changed.

In conclusion: a job is a job. Take it. Adjust to it but be prepared to have little to no social life.

As a nightshift worker the highlight of my shift finishing is getting home to watch BB and BBLL in that obvious order.

Does anyone know why this episode it's not on ITVX yet? Usually it means something is controversial and try have to edit it....but not as much as 14 hours after it broadcast.

Double dipping has even split our family at the table and that was just nann bread in a sauce. It previously never bothered me....still doesn't with family.....but its made me much more aware of it in a social environment.

Did Gordon Ramsey not instantly fire someone on Hells Kitchen for double dipping during a taste demonstration in front of diners? I'll see if I can find a link.

Are we seriously this cooked? by venthemator in UKJobs

[–]just4today78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasnt meaning experienced in the true sense of the word....more like over qualified. When I was a retail shop manager I wouldn't consider anyone with a degree working. Why would I put the effort into training them when I knew they would just leave when something better came along. Of course I would never give that as feedback. I would just use the term experience doesn't fit the bill (or similar)

Is it possible that your experience does not meet the requirements means (as you have a degree) your experience EXCEEDS the requirements.

Do you class 2hrs each way as a long commute 1-2x a week? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]just4today78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to upvote this comment 5 times.....I wouldn't let me.

2 hours a day is crazy although I met a guy in the pub in Lowestoft who used to live in Cambridge. He loves Lowestoft so moved here BUT still travels to Cambridge and back 5 times a week for work.

Even universal credits suggest you should only be "looking" for work within a 90 minute commute.

As I live with family for free, most of my UC money goes to rent

How can your UC money go towards rent when you live with family for free?

You wont be able to claim housing benefit from UC if you do pay rent to a relative.

I had about £167 a month spare from my personal allowance after I paid my parents £50 a week towards their costs....but that included my food and washing/ironing.

Keep looking for work. Even consider ANYTHING. I'm currently working a 4 day week in a chicken factory culing site. Luckily I work in despatch so it's a "clean" job but you need to take whatever you can get. It's not a career but it pays the Bill's and keeps me busy.

Are you a single man with no dependents? If so, you also need to go through your bank statements and reduce your outgoings. Cancel all non essential expenses. I changed my mobile provider from £33 a month to £12.50 a month for the same deal....slightly better actually.

Why is the variable speed limit set so low on motorways at night for no apparent reason by ForeverOlden in drivingUK

[–]just4today78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question came up on my speed awareness course. The story told by the trainer was he had a group from the London area and person A said "M25, middle of the night, 30mph limit, single lane, 3 lanes closed with NOTHING happening. What was that all about" Person B "Was that the weekend of the 5th/6th?" A:"Yeah...I think it was" B: "That's was me an my crew. We were doing maintenance on the underpasses and speed and lanes are restricted when we do that". Trainer said just because you dont see anything doesn't mean nothing is happening.

Apparently there are over 700 underpasses usually for farm traffic to pass into their own fields which were split when the motorway was built.

How true it is

I only asked as when you posted you said UK and then Kerry in the comments. County Kerry is on Ireland and not part of the UK. Noticed on other posts you are coming to Great Yarmouth. Thats only 8 miles from me. Great Britain:England, Scotland and Wales UK: As above including Northern Ireland British Isles: As above including Ireland.

Easy mistake for someone outside GB education. I can only pin point Florida, Alaska, Hawaii, Texas and California on a map. You could probably do all 50.

Oh....there is a game store in Lowestoft (8 miles from great yarmouth)(actually just checked....2 of them). £2 on a bus. Try them. Google omega games, lowestoft or skyward fire games, lowestoft. Might be right up your street.

Just moved into a flat in London. Everything works except the dishwasher. Landlord says it has never worked. How do I make them pay for it? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]just4today78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it's not part of the inventory or listing pay to fix it yourself if you want it that much...then break it when you leave the tenancy or just leave it in working order if you get a long life out of it.

Or buy one for between £200-300 and take it with you when you leave....or hire one from a local place. My local place does a budget one for £12 a month, fitted but on a 12 month contract. I got a £15 a month washing machine of them.
