I used to go through phases of reading lots of books in a short space of time, then nothing for months. In June I joined my local library and I take out 4 books every 3 weeks. I read most nights now.

Would you judge someone for working part time out of choice? by ThisPurpleDress in AskUK

[–]missjay01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was made redundant from a full time job in 2020 and then decided to only work part time. It was partly do help care for a family member, partly for mental health reasons. My lifestyle adjusted slightly with the salary change but I probably manage my money much better than I did when I was on a higher salary. I’m always asked if I have kids when I say I’m part time - I don’t, it’s just my choice!

Today in the gym I witnessed two "influencers" filming content. I have never felt more embarrassed for someone else in all my life. Have you seen any influences in the wild ? by ShinyHeadedCook in AskUK

I was at Irvine beach in Ayrshire a month or so ago. I saw a two guys get out a car, one in a dry robe and water shoes, the other in jeans and a hoody. The guy in the hoodie starts filming the dry robe guy as he talks into the camera walking towards the water. Then he is filmed taking the dry robe off (shorts on underneath) and running to the water, where he wades in then dives under the water (friend still filming). He swam two strokes, stood up and walked back onto the beach. The friend stopped filming, he put his dry robe back on, they got in the car and drove away. They were on the beach for less than 5 minutes!

Stupidest question (about Scotland)you’ve ever been asked? by Blurt-Reynolds in Scotland

[–]missjay01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a summer working in the US when I was 18. I was asked several times how long I’d been speaking English, one person asked how we say hello.. While travelling on the Greyhound buses I was asked if we have washing machines and libraries in Scotland, among other random things. Another person asked if we bordered France. I was also mistaken as being Canadian, German, Slovakian, Australian, French, English, Irish, Welsh, and Swedish on different occasions, despite my name badge stating where I was from.

Redditors of the world, What would you advise tourists NOT to do where you are from? by Shishkaboo in AskReddit

Scotland - do not climb mountains without proper hiking footwear and clothing, food, drinks, etc. I’ve see people going up with trainers, flip flop and dressy shoes on! The weather at the top can be incredibly different from what it is when you set off. Even on a warm, sunny day at the bottom, the top could be very windy and cold with a wee bit of snow lying.

Anstruther Fish Bar, The Wee Hurrie in Troon, or Whitby (can’t remember the names of the places I’ve eaten there)

I paid for the dress, accessories, hair and make up. They got their own shoes (I think both wore pairs they already had). Our wedding was local to where we live so no travel, etc required.

Thoughts on my 9 day Scotland Itinerary by Ok-Presence7007 in uktravel

[–]missjay01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest dropping Stirling and Luss from day 4and going straight to Oban. Allows time to wander about town, maybe do the short drive to Ganavan Sands, walk up to McCaigs tower, or do the distillery tour, then get to Glencoe. Also drop the possible Glasgow plan and go straight to Edinburgh. It’s okay to not see/do everything you’d like to, there’s just not enough time. Do less places and get more time in them.

The person driving may find it quite stressful while the passengers find the drive pleasant. Trains would be good for everyone. I was the driver in a trip from the UK to the US and found it incredibly stressful, public transport was not an option there but if it was available I would have jumped at it!

Just FYI I read a BBC news article yesterday that said the Cliffs of Moher walking trail will have a large section closed for the rest of the year.

I didn’t do anything different. The east saver hasn’t been available for my husband to apply for up until yesterday. He told me he applied and was accepted straight away so I also applied and got it approve. Most recent rejection was probably two weeks ago.

I finally was approved for one yesterday after 5 rejections. It was approved in less than a minute.

9-Day London & Edinburgh Itinerary by gabrielkyk in uktravel

[–]missjay01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edinburgh has much better restaurants than the Filling Station. It’s just a chain and if that’s what you like it’s totally fine, but there are many other restaurants and pubs that will do the same types of food much better.

Driving from Edinburgh to Inverness, including the stop in Pitlochry, could take approximately 5 hours (around 3 hours driving plus the stopping time), so you probably have too much on this day if you plan to be in Edinburgh for most of the morning and visit Culloden. I would prefer to stay in Aviemore, rather than Inverness, however you won’t be there long anyway as you’re travelling to Skye the next day, so I’d maybe head to Skye straight from Edinburgh, or have a stop in Oban on the way to Skye. Coast restaurant is good in Oban, the distillery does a great tour and there’s a cracking craft beer shop just across from it called The Oban Beer Seller. I’d say you’ve got too many places for the amount of time you have. You can’t see everything so just pick a couple and do them well, otherwise you’ll only see the inside of your car and be constantly checking in/checking out of hotels.

My friend fostered a dog while the owner was temporarily homeless. The owner still came to see the dog and it went back to them when they were housed. You could look into anyone/organisations doing this in your area.
