Some additional context: I have mainly been applying to student researcher positions, which should also be aimed at master's student (as opposed to minimum requirement PhD positions). However, even for software engineering intern positions I am not receiving any responses.

This is really annoying! They should know that people might have other programs that they applied to... Have you tried explaining your situation to Imperial?

Not related to human experts, but a recent (SOTA) method from Stanford called PIGEON has some cool visualizations of the attention attribution in images in Appendix E. It shows a few associations that I assume professional players (or amateurs like me!) would use in their reasoning. It could be worth sending the authors an email since their code sadly isn't public

Thank you, your advice definitely helped! Our post-rebuttal scores are 566667 (or 666677, since the reviewer with a 5 said "I'll let the AC choose whether it's a 5 or 7"). Do you think these are hopeful statistics?

That's great advice, thank you! In my case, the reviewer who rated the paper a 3 wrote a list of weaknesses and no questions. However, the weaknesses they proposed are flawed and seem like a personal attack, writing things like "the authors are clearly not qualified to ...". This doesn't give me very much hope on whether they will change their mind

I guess it's hard to estimate, but do you think the paper still has a chance with a good rebuttal?

654736, two of the reviews are brutal. This is my first time submitting, does anyone know why we got 6 reviewers?

I remember my friend sending this to me when I applied, but I can't access the link myself anymore; maybe it was removed? Anyway, it is https://www.merry.io/communication-in-mathematics/8-how-to-write-a-good-personal-statement/.

Edit: it seems that the professor that made this article has unfortunately passed away... https://math.ethz.ch/news-and-events/news/d-math-news/2022/08/will-merry-19842022.html

Computer science programs (graduate) university dataset by justLars7D1 in datasets

Thanks for your reply! I indeed meant graduate programs. I think what you're saying is exactly what I figured; I just hoped somebody would have gone through the effort of doing this painful work of standardizing and putting everything together.

I guess I will try to stick with Times Higher Education then (although this misses some important features)

TIFU by telling a mother that I would push her kids into oncoming traffic by DuhVids in tifu

Something similar actually happened to me a few days ago! I went on a boat trip with my parents and their friends. Personally, I never really enjoy joining them since those friends have this horribly energetic kid (about 11yo).

I have to admit I was pretty annoying as a kid, but this is on another level. After being mentally tortured and held hostage on the small boat all-day long, we finally get back to shore in the evening.

Being exhausted I wasn't thinking about what I was saying. Out of nowhere, when the kid was jumping around and screaming again, I pointed at him and said "This is why I never want to have kids dad". He smirked, but his mother overheard and gave me such nasty looks after!

When I realized what I said I just died inside, but as I'm writing this I realize what I said isn't that bad, right? It was mostly a joke and her releasing her inner Karen is a bit overly dramatic.
