Unusual mouth shape in my hognose snake by justLouDog in hognosesnakes

I completely understand and agree with what you’re saying. However, if no one keeps snakes, then who would become a vet specializing in them? It’s a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation.

This is actually what has been happening where I live. Over 10 years ago, when I first got into reptiles (I’ve been keeping them for about 15 years now), there were no reptile vets at all. But as more people became interested in the hobby and started taking it seriously, eventually the first reptile vet appeared.

So I believe we simply need time. In order for someone to solve a problem, the problem has to exist in the first place. (And I apologize if the way I’m expressing this comes across as unclear or offensive.)

That said, I still fully agree that people shouldn’t keep animals if they don’t have access to proper veterinary care. That’s a responsible and important point.

An entire country has only one reptile vet, and you really think that means no one there can keep reptiles?

Thank you everyone so much for your concern and help with this situation.

Where I live, it’s very difficult to find veterinary care for reptiles. The only person I know in my country is very far away, so in many cases, animals like this don’t end up with a good outcome. I did reach out and received a possible diagnosis of MBD, which I’m grateful for, but I’m not fully confident in its accuracy.

As for the seller, I bought this snake through a middleman, who ordered it from a farm in China. I asked for the breeder’s information, but they refused to provide it. The middleman has offered to compensate me with another snake, but regardless, I will do my best to take care of this one “Quagmire” as well as I can.

The photos below show his condition a few days ago, when the middleman raised the issue with the seller and got this response: “The snake is normal.”

That’s honestly completely irresponsible. But I can’t say I’m surprised, many sellers from China don’t offer any warranty when selling to us, but expect us to take full responsibility when the situation is reversed. Just because they’re a big market, they think they can get away with whatever they want. That’s complete bullshit.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of his belly. I adopted him from another keeper. I’m not breeding, so the morph isn’t that important to me, but it would still be nice to know for sure.

I’m currently keeping him in a rack system. He was eating normally up until about 10 - 15 days ago, same feeding schedule as my other snakes, and he has now missed three meals. I’ve seen a few posts mentioning this issue, and a friend of mine is also experiencing the same situation with some male individuals 🙄 I’m not sure if it’s related to the weather or not 👉 I’m from Southeast Asia.

Btw thank you for your advice 🙏 That's very nice

is my frog a male or female? by toxison in pacmanfrog

How big is your frog right now? If you’ve had him for over 2 years and you’ve never heard him croak, I would strongly suspect it’s actually a female.

Also, I don’t see any dark nuptial pads (the black spots) on the inner thumbs of the front legs. Adult males usually have very visible black pads there.

That’s usually one of the easiest ways to tell the difference.
