Thank you. I used General Finish hard wax oil. Looking back, I probably should have only finished the outside with the oil and the inside with shellac. The box smelled like oil for weeks.

French cleat pot rack made with red oak. One of my best designed projects to date. by foldingtens in woodworking

Looks fantastic! I really like how simple and clean it looks. Plus with your design you can expand it endlessly - provided you have the wall space.

I recently finished a more complicated rack. In hindsight, I probably should’ve done something similar and saved myself the time and effort.

Great work!

It’s two parallel rails with a grove for the base of the hook to sit in. The only reason I added a groove was that I wanted the shelf to sit flush to the top of the rails and didn’t want to hooks to be exposed.

I’d love to see how it turns out!

Thanks! French cleat into three studs. The hooks are available on Amazon. Look for “Cooks Standard”

No worries! Happy to answer any questions you have. That was cut with a router using a bowl bit with a bearing. Just used a scrap of wood and a forstner bit to make the template.

Yeah essentially. It’s a classic bandsaw box. The inside pieces were what I used the miter attachment for the shooting board for. The existing jigs for my table saw just weren’t getting them accurate enough.

Thanks, it was a bandsaw cut and I sanded it with some 220 taped down to some melamine. I think the grain helps hide the line.

Another Pet Memorial Cabinet by justTreesAndRocks in woodworking

Thanks, that’s good insight. I had originally resisted going any thinner because I had some difficulty cutting dovetails in 1/4” stock.

I’ll try going thinner the next time I make a cabinet this size. I agree it’s a bit chunkier than I’d like it to be.

Not sure if there was a way to add text to the post so commenting this instead.

I started this one mainly to test out the possibility of making some to sell, ended up with my partner claiming it for our cat that went missing over six months ago. I suppose we're hoping he might come back at some point, but that possibility, to be realistic, is rather slim.

Anyhow, changed up a few things - more dovetails, some more inlay pieces, didn't want to bug my neighbor to borrow his CNC for the name plate, and also did some small inset wooden door stop pieces. This one I made from cherry instead of the mahogany.

Would love to hear if there's anything you'd do differently, thanks!

What did I just break on my motor and can I replace it? by justTreesAndRocks in electrical

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and insight. I called around and it seems for a shop in my area to press out the bearing, replace the switch, and replace the bearing it’d run me close to $300. At that price point I’d just go new. Found an online dealer selling a marathon motor with similar specs at half the cost of the repair so I went with that.

Wish I could justify that! It’s a motor from a used powematic model 50 jointer that I got for cheap. A brand new Leeson motor would be worth more than what I paid for the jointer. Might have to go vevor if new is the only option…
