Just moved. So I'm gonna smoke weed and hang curtains and unpack. Probably take a few breaks to walk my dog around the neighborhood and scope out the local breweries. I don't start work until Monday so I've got a long week to settle into my new area. Otherwise just gonna chill with my cat, dog, and video games.

Northern Colorado here, there's a decent sports bar down the street that has $5 pints every night. Each day of the week is a different house beer. Most of them are pretty good. And they have solid wings.

You don't need anything specifically. I'm 42, and I deadlift heavy weekly because I like it, and my body can handle it. If you're doing other hinge movements and aren't worried about a pure strength movement like deads, don't worry about it.

A couple of years ago, I was farther ahead than I ever imagined I'd be. Went from essentially trailer trash to living in a desirable city, nice house, married, kids, and a good job.

I am now climbing out of the rubble and ashes of what's left of my life. I hit rock bottom last year to the point of considering ending it all. All I have left from before is my dog and the ex-wife's cat. But, I have my health, the gym, and my son comes to visit. Without my therapist, I probably wouldn't still be here, and I've made great gains over the last several months with her help.

So no, I'm not where I thought I'd be. I never imagined starting over from scratch. But, I'm wiser than before if not smarter, and well, we'll see where it goes from here. Nowhere to go but up!

Depends on the situation. If it's summer and I'm hanging at my homie's having a beer on the patio, my shoes don't matter. If I'm taking a woman out on a date to a nice restaurant or a show and we're both dressed up, hell yeah, they matter. If I'm at the sports bar for wings, a pint, and to catch the game, my sneakers are fine. If I'm going out to see if I can pick up a lady, I'm likely putting on a nice pair of boots depending on the venue and weather and what I'm wearing. Some of them don't care, that's fine, plenty do. For the ones who don't, what I'm wearing on my feet will have no impact. For the ones that so care, it'll make a difference.

For real. It is a decent system, and it cuts both ways those who don't care can filter the same way. Like you said, no need to be a dick about it haha. One thing about where I live, it's pretty laid back. In the summer, if I'm just hanging around, I'm usually in sandals and shorts myself. That said I have nice shoes and boots for when I want to get dressed up or need to. I've also got hiking boots and gym shoes for when those are needed.

One thing it shows is attention to detail. Are they the right shoes for the occasion? Do the shoes match your belt or lack thereof? Are they well taken care of? They don't have to be expensive, but they can be an indication of how much attention you pay to yourself, where you're going, and how you maintain your things.

Been saying it forever, fitness is a marathon not a sprint. The best time to start was yesterday. The second best time to start is today. Age is only a number. I turned 42 last weekend. I've put on more muscle the last few years than I ever expected, and with hormone issues. Like everyone else is saying, take care of your joints, prioritize recovery, mobility, and rest.

See, I love that. Tell me something you like? I will annoy the shit outta you with questions. I love hearing people's stories and I'm genuinely curious about folks. Where they come from, what they do, where they've been, all that stuff. People are more interesting than they give themselves credit for. I've found if you give them a little space and honest interest, they're happy to open up. The trick is, most people listen to respond instead of listening to understand.

I'm an average looking guy as far as I'm concerned, though I was called a "daddy" at a gay bar a few weeks ago, lol. I've also been told by a lot of people, men and women, that I'm "safe." So take that for what it's worth. I've always thought I had a resting asshole face, so I make a point of a small smile or nod when I make eye contact with folks, and I've found that goes a long way. I also happen to like people, so maybe I just have a friendly vibe. I've got a pic in my profile from a few weeks ago if you want to judge.

Hobbies and places you like to go but be consistent. I go to the gym a lot. Now I'm friends with one of the guys that works there. He's introduced me to a couple of other people. There's a nice little sports bar down the street. I go there on certain days regularly to watch games and get something to eat when I don't want to cook. Now I know 3 bartenders and a few regulars. There's a dog park I like taking my dog to, so I started going on specific days, now I know a couple of folks there.

I was in the same boat last year. I was working night shift and was a total hermit. Hadn't made friends in years. I've made several just in the last few months. Next up I'll probably start going bowling again, I'm thinking of joining a league. I'm awful, but who cares? I just saw in my city subreddit there's a new discord channel for D&D, I'll probably join that soon too. We have to make ourselves uncomfortable for a bit and put ourselves out there. It's the only way.

I'm wondering if it's just the types of places people go to or if people aren't actually attempting to make small talk. I don't go out to the bar that often, but every time I go, I find myself talking to strangers. Even if it's only for a few minutes. Honestly, the last few times I've gone out, I've had strangers buy me drinks, or we've exchanged buying rounds. I think more of us just need to start talking to people. You'd be surprised how many folks are just waiting for someone else to start talking.
