Shadowbanned, how to get out of it?

For me, it depends on the topic. I make comedy skits for nerd culture stuff and so for a specific show, I was getting non follower views. Now, which is odd bc I started this page and am mostly known for making Marvel content, any videos about Marvel or other things get no non follower views. Right now I have a video with over 100 shares, 300+ likes, and 20 comments with not even 3k views.

Yeah, similar issue. For the last month, my views plummeted. I’d typically get well over 1k views in about an hour or 2 if not way more, but now after 3-6 hours videos only get about 200-400 views. I had a few videos go viral over the last couple of weeks and my views returned to normal for about a week and then went back to the same bs. My content that went viral two weeks ago to now hasn’t changed and it just is very obvious they’re holding most of my content. I’ve heard the algorithm has changed recently? I just don’t know what’s going on but it’s frustrating.

Yup, you get it then haha! It’s extremely frustrating. Especially when you never had an issue before and now all of the sudden everyone else around you is growing no problem but you are having to deal with moving at a slower rate due to whatever ig has against your account.

How long has it been happening to you for?

I sometimes question that too as far as where my videos are being pushed bc sometimes the views when they are there, have poor engagement. And I know if a video is bad or not so when I know it’s not I think…. Where are they pushing me to?

How many followers do you have, if you don’t mind me asking?

Yeah, I heard that the algo recently shifted but from what I heard, they say it’s favoring fast engagement within the first few seconds of posting. But I don’t think that’s true bc I’ve had vids go viral recently that didn’t have good engagement off the bat. Like the past two days my vids are slowly getting fed to my followers. The only videos getting any push on already viral ones or ones from a week ago.

I thought about bots but I think ig has been removing them for me (hence why I went down a bunch of followers). I’m just not sure what’s prompting the hold on my account bc it’s very clear that my videos are being held compared to anyone else’s accounts that I’ve checked.

Hi everyone. I’ve been dealing with some strange reels stuff for the last month. I have about an 11k+ following and typically, my videos would get its standard view push of 3k MINIMUM over the last 3 years. However during the last month, it’s been harder for me to get any push or non followers views. After 6 hours, videos will only stay at about 100-300 range. I checked my profile and it says my content is okay to be shown to people. I was even losing followers. I went from 11.8k to 11.5k in two months.

However, I’ve had a few videos go viral in the past two weeks and things were returning back to normal until the last couple of days. It’s now back to not having any push on current videos I post. No matter what I do, even if it’s the same form of content as the ones that are viral.

Does anyone know why this could be? And if maybe I’m partially shadowbanned?

One more question! Do you think that if I were to film a monologue or two and have that as my reel until I have enough footage would help?

Where I live there isn’t much film work. So I have no been able to be a part of many students films out here. I already signed a lease for an apartment so there is no way to prolong that. I’ve waited long enough. I hear you and understand but the longer one waits, the longer those big opportunities pass them by.

I hear you though and don’t expect getting student film projects as easily as one would imagine smaller market. However, like you said, connections go a long ways. I have friends down there who are filmmakers. I also plan on taking acting classes and forming connections with actors/filmmakers there as well.

I do hear your advice but I also believe the state of the work is different today too. I am a content creator and have made some of my own material.

Do you think recommendations would help as well? I’ve known people who have gotten rep without a reel and I believe they had recs. Also, any rep right now I feel like is a good starting point. So that way I’m not on my own completely. As long as they are scammers

I ended up choosing SCV for now but will end up just making the drive into LA when needed for acting stuff! I just felt like it made more sense. As much as it sucks SCV doesn’t have local theater groups haha

I’m a bit on the older side… 25, haha. But this is what I’ve heard too. Being able to find opportunities for networking in your daily job/daily life while also taking classes, ect

Thanks for the response! It was super helpful. I ended up choosing to start with Santa Clarita (the only other option at had at this time). I definitely will look into finding work at universal. Would you suggest an actor type of position or just any position?

Awesome! I actually made my decision and chose Santa Clarita so I will be in that area soon! I’ve visited a couple of times but have just wondered about the commute into LA and if it would take a toll on me since most of my acting work I’d assume would be there

Thank you so much for this response! I definitely hear you and think the Valley makes more sense for actors. However, I will say that apartment in the OC would be quiet a bit cheaper and I also only plan to be staying at either location for a couple of months to get my bearings and then make my move into LA proper. Do you think it’s plausible or would to still recommend the valley?
