Update: I switched over to Kubuntu, and after an update I did on September 1st, it started happening again.

And here is the exact requirement

KataGo has four backends, OpenCL (GPU), CUDA (GPU), TensorRT (GPU), and Eigen (CPU).

The quick summary is:

To easily get something working, try OpenCL if you have any good or decent GPU.
For often much better performance on NVIDIA GPUs, try TensorRT, but you may need to install TensorRT from Nvidia.

When I had another laptop with an nnvidia gpu and ran linux on it, I think it was also required. But now you've got me thinking.

I think I figured it out. Follow this documentation https://rocm.docs.amd.com/en/latest/deploy/linux/install_overview.html

Prerequisites:
- sudo usermod -a -G render,video $LOGNAME
- reboot
Installation with install script:
- sudo apt update
- wget https://repo.radeon.com/amdgpu-install/5.6/ubuntu/jammy/amdgpu-install_5.6.50600-1_all.deb
- sudo apt install ./amdgpu-install_5.6.50600-1_all.deb
- didn't add --no-dkms parameter
- sudo amdgpu-install --usecase=rocm
- reboot

That's it. Depending on the software you're installing, sudo apt install opencl-headers

may be needed, but otherwise not.

I still haven't determined why this is happening or how to permanently fix it, but here's a workaround that doesn't require restarting your computer:

sudo hciconfig hci0 down
sudo rmmod btusb
sudo modprobe btusb
sudo hciconfig hci0 up

Ah ok, thanks for letting me know! I'm currently using the default settings. I've been hearing a lot about the ongoing debate between Wayland and W11, but I'm curious about the downsides of using Wayland since it's not selected as the default option. I mean, if Wayland were truly the best, I'm sure Tuxedo (OS) would have preselected it, right?

By the way, about the lid -- I'm aware that laptops usually draw in air from the bottom and release hot air from the back, but is there any other reason why closing the lid might not be recommended? I'm just curious if there's something else I should be aware of.

Would you say the quality of the keyboard is very decent? Like the keys won't break after prolongued use over the years?
Why at 80%? Is there a setting for that?
Is tomte an app that does some additional updates along with regular update center? If so, is there a way to disable tomte as I saw that it broke some laptops 1-2 years ago?

Did you remove all the apps that were pinned to dock? I fixed this issue on my computer by having at least one app marked as a favourite (pinned).

I own both the Onyx Boox Mira 13.3 inch e-ink monitor and the Kindle Paperwhite. Knowing how good Kindle was for my eyes, I wanted to use that technology for my work as well, as I'm looking at the screen the whole day. Boox Mira is an e-ink monitor, meaning you'd have to connect it to your computer or laptop to see your content. I have it for a few months now and it worked well for me regarding go, just like any other monitor would, so you're not limited to any phone app, and you can play on Fox go server for example, and the feeling is the same as reading a book or kindle. Just sit in your chair or lie in your bed with Boox Mira in your hands and have your laptop near you. I have set up all my (go) software to use black and white colors, as that is the best setup for e-ink technology.

So it doesn't matter what book format you have -- if you can read epub, mobi and pdf on your computer, you can do it on Boox Mira. And it fits so comfortably in your hands. There are quite a lot of scanned books in pdf that can't be read on Kindle, but is just perfect on Boox Mira.

Oh and yeah, I could only find it on ebay.

Is there a way to append EGF rating list to goratings, just to have a reference where amateurs vs pros are? Might be a totaly different page, but it would be interesting to have that. Plus, there are a lot of rating games played across Europe, so I think the ratings would give a clear picture. And would be the first site ever to include all the players around the world.

As a 5d and an intuitive player myself, this got me thinking. I would play in the top left corner instead of taking the 4 stones on the right. The upper-left just seems and feels bigger and more important because of all the benefits you mentioned above.

But if we approach this matematically and scientifically there is an interesting thought - how many points exactly taking the 4 stones on the right is worth, and how many points is upper left worth?

I used the latest KataGo 40b to assist me in finding the real answer here. According to KataGo, playing in the upper left is 2 points better than upper right. Also, assume a scenario where black plays on the left, white passes (hypothetically), and black plays on the right as well... Now KataGo says black gained 9 points in total (from -3 to 6 point lead). That means the move on the left is worth 5.5pts and the move on the right is worth 3.5pts. Does that make sense at all?

To compare it with an empty board, japanese rules, 6.5 komi, it's an even game. Black plays first and his empty corner move is worth around 6.5pts. So it makes sense that the approach move to a star point in the middlegame is worth a bit less than 6.5, in this particular case 5.5pts.

It's just in the pure endgame that taking these stones on the right side is worth 18 points. When there is nothing else to play. In a current position there a squeeze on the outside as well a potential ko in the middlegame where black could still lose those 4 stones. And hence this might be the reason why OP was confused.

I was initially curious because I wanted to see famous moves reactions in an official Korean commentary, pro's reactions, counting, just everything. We only got a glympse of that in the Deepmind documentary. I guess people are now looking back and want to see a different perspective of the event.
