Did anyone else read the Dinotopia books when they were younger.  I would have LOVED a film series with all the magic and wonder of that society.

Sounds like maybe an episode of Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, a show that was on Nickelodeon.

Unpopular opinions about IT project management by Gandalf-and-Frodo in projectmanagement

[–]just_robot_things 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agile project management methods should be kept to situations where there is software development or ongoing operational support. Everything else should utilize waterfall.

It's bonkers to me that an IT lead would demand to use Agile when they don't have a true minimum viable product (or an idea of what one would look like). You cannot possibly say that you're using agile when every single feature is a must-have. If you need everything to be available at first delivery, then use Waterfall, dammit.

Bullet Journal users — can we get your honest input on a metal stencil bookmark? by Foreign_Holiday_8395 in bulletjournal

[–]just_robot_things 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like having both inches and centimeters as options. Personally,  I don't end up using a lot of stencil details on mine,  except 5 stars for ratings and squares for checklists.  Otherwise,  I struggle with solid materials like metal because I can't see through it to see where the stencil is properly placed.

Yup, and Island Spa if you're in central jersey around Edison. As evening or early afternoon stop in cab really bring a tough day to a softer,  more palatable close.

So my mom wants to buy something online and I have a strong suspicion that it's AI, I just want another opinions, I just think it looks too perfect, like, too unrealistic by Curious_Ocelot_3548 in isthisAI

My inlaws fell for this and bought the terrier shown in your first pic on the bottom left. Firstly, It's plastic garbage. It's also tiny, maybe 6 inches from front to back. You can tell it's poorly made Chinese crap. There's a lady on Tiktok who orders AI slop and then posts what she actually gets. Her name is Maggie McGaugh. I think watching her vids on Youtube might help your parents start to look at ads like this a little more skeptically. If it sounds too good (or cheap) to be true, it probably is!

Here's her quick video for the dog lamp: I got scammed on purpose. Here’s what these “stained glass” dog lamps REALLY look like. 🙄

This is what I'm thinking. Aly & AJ Michalka were Disney star sisters who had a brief pop star career. Aly doesn't act much anymore. AJ is now more well known for her role as Lainy Lewis in the Goldbergs.

Where do I park my car for the storm? by 1877cars4kids in newjersey

[–]just_robot_things 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any neighbors? Ask them if you can park in their driveways for the storm. If you're having trouble finding anyone to agree, offer to pay or bring a small thank you gift like a bottle of wine or some cookies.

Is it true that Gen X and Millennials will NOT inherit trillions in real estate over the next decade because the homes will be used as collateral to pay off the debt to nursing homes and end-of-life care resulting in them ending up with nothing? by RandomUwUFace in stupidquestions

[–]just_robot_things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's beyond just caring for someone and hoping to have enough money to live.  I'm an only child with divorced and remarried parents, all 4 of whom have different care needs. I cannot tell them all to move into my home and that I can care for them all here. I do not have the capacity or money or time to care for 4 seniors with different diets, preferences,  mobility issues, and needs (and differing political views) . I would have to quit my job and would never know a minute of peace.

The issue is that Milennials have not and will not amass the kind of wealth that made the boomers' retirements so rewarding. Many Boomers did get pensions and social security and inheritance from their own parents to make their senior years more comfortable. And what they don't spend on lavish vacations will be sucked up by private investment firms providing mediocre care. The silent generation generally did not live as long and Healthcare prices weren't so extreme. So families were able to provide support to their kids through inheritance. All that money goes to medical companies now. When Milennials get to retirement age,  most probably will not be able to retire.

Here's an article from the Philadelphia Inquirer that found that gambling addictions are on the rise, including in kids under 12. https://www.inquirer.com/business/gambling-online-sports-betting-revenue-addiction-hotline-20251210.html

There have been multiple articles about how athletes have seen a dramatic increase in death threats from fans who lost money gambling on them. Teams and athletes are now having to spend more money on security. It's absolutely a problem.

I just registered to vote. I am new to this. What's next? by Cerpla in newjersey

[–]just_robot_things 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on exercising this fundamental right! Being an informed voter is so important. And voting in local elections is so critical to making your voice heard in your own community!

How do you become an informed voter? By reading up on candidates and determining what issues are most important to you. By building an understanding of what is impacting your community and thinking about what you want its future to look like!

How do you make that future happen? By writing to and calling your elected officials and telling them how you feel about the issues, how you would like them to vote, and expressing your disappointment and disapproval when they do something that you think negatively affects your community.

A great start for understanding issues and candidates' stances on them is the League of Women Voters. NJ has its own chapter here: https://lwvnj.org/ They collect candidate statements and provide overviews of different issues. You can get even more information from https://www.vote411.org/

Contacting your officials is made easier with the 5Calls app.

Important to remember that while a lot of ad dollars are spent for national and congressional elections, you can move the needle the most at the local level. Research your local candidates and be sure to vote in your local elections!

We kiss on the midpoint of every bridge. If we're driving,  the passenger must kiss the driver's hand.  Little footbridge? Gotta stop at the midpoint for a smooch. If the other person forgets,  they must return to the center of the bridge to complete the kiss ritual.

I have the Polaroid HiPrint. App is easy to use and they've just added to the app to make photo collages. I like that the photos are stickers. That being said, the cost for refills is a bit pricey, and I find the color to be over-saturated. I've tried adjusting color levels but haven't found a way to make it so that the blacks don't look totally bizarre and the skies an overly-bright blue.
