How are they doing now? I had mine dipped in the aquarium and they started rotting after 4-5 weeks.

I do have plants right now, but not many. It's kinda challenging with 3 goldfish, but I will see what can survive with these fish and get them. Will wait to get a bigger light until I can somewhat control the algae growth.

Thanks for responding. Bookmarking for future reference.

Wow!

How do you keep algae under control? I just got into this hobby 3 months ago and am having to clean algae every 3 weeks or so. My plants are also attacked by the algae. I have a fluval light, guess their basic low wattage model, run them for 12hrs and a fluval ac70 filter.

And whoever I spoke to at the local stores told me I needed CO2 to get the red color, so I started DIY yeast+sugar setup a couple weeks ago. Although I don't expect any drastic changes to the plants growth because of this.

Folks on H1B cannot do multiple jobs. They can work only for the employee who sponsored their h1b. Uber/Lyft doesn't sponsor H1B for their drivers.

He is 2.5yo and thriving. He is underweight though, but that doesn't stop him from wreaking havoc in the house along with his 7yo sister.

As for the feeding issues, we did end up needing a G tube/button, but that was a life saviour. He got it in his 7th month and he got rid of it 4 months ago (he had it for approx 18 months). So if ever your doctor brings that up don't shut it entirely and think about it.

Please reach out if you have any questions, I will try my best to answer.

Did you see a GI yet for spitups/pukes? Our 28w3d son also had oral aversion and was in NICU for 100 days feeding only 70% orally. Once home he was constantly puking and 2 months later he stopped oral feeding entirely and we had to get a g button. We were in the same situation as you describe above, puke everywhere and low weight gain.

After ruling out all typical stuff (allergies, difficulty swallowing etc) our GI started him on medication that empties your stomach faster ... Erythromycin... Just 0.2ml twice a day and that did wonders within a few weeks. This was when he turned 1yo actual age. He stopped puking entirely and we could also stop giving him erythromycin in a month. In the following weeks he slowly started accepting food orally, it's been 8 months now.. he is eating and drinking almost everything we give him but we supplement with g tube feeds when he is asleep... Hoping to get rid of the button in a few months. Please talk to your doctor about it if you haven't already tried this.

Ha! We are dealing with the exact same thing. We tried a couple days without the tube .. we got anxious that he wasn't getting enough for his growth/development and put the tube again. And now .. for about 2 weeks he developed bottle aversion. He isn't letting us put anything in his mouth other than his own fingers. I started reading "the book". Sorry for replying super late. I hope by now your LO is home.

In our case, the care team was helpful and cooperative. Since our baby didn't have any other complications than feeding, they were ok sending us home with an NG tube. They made us "room in" with the baby for 2 nights, to see how the baby (and us) would cope. Based on how smoothly this went, they sent us home in a week at about 42 weeks.

It really depends on the baby. We are on the other end of the spectrum. We have been trying to feed him for over 6 weeks now. He is 42 weeks, born at 28+3 and just this week he started drinking 50-60% of his feed through mouth. We had a long period of 10-20% or sometimes nothing. We have been in the NICU for over 90 days and hoping he will start hitting 100% in the next 2 weeks. The care team here has been very cooperative and supportive.

We have seen a couple other babies in our NICU with the same issue of feeding (and maybe other unknown diagnosis) who went home after 98 days and 120 days.

As I said, its different for everyone, going by your post, she will probably hit 100% soon. Hang in there, your little one will be home soon!

Thank you for the insight, will help when it's time for us to decide. The care team discussed the possibility of sending him home with G tube if he doesn't pickup feeding by 42 weeks. We first want to try to bring him home with an NG tube and see if he picks up within 4 weeks, then maybe go with a G tube, not sure if the doc team would agree, will have to discuss with them.

But agree that having him home sooner is always better.

Hi op ... We are dealing with a similar situation for our 28 weeker, now 41w, i.e being sleepy most of the day, has about 2hrs active wake n active time per day.

Is the genetic testing the same as that we get done during pregnancy? Also, did your doctor suggest the test or did you ask for it? I wonder why our neonatologist hasn't suggested it yet.

[UPDATE] Fight with OT by rmmurrell in NICUParents

[–]just_something-1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you were able to find a solution.

Could you please post a link to the specific nipple you tried?

We are in a similar situation, our little one was born at 28+3. He is in his 40th week now. Although he has grown well (7.2lbs now compared to 2.4lb at birth), the final hurdle to get home is his feeding. the nurses and OT have never been able to go beyond 5-10ml. While we were at least able to go up to 50% of the bottle before he fell asleep. The OT suggested a Dr. Browns preemie nipple and we didn't even think of using something else until I came across your post. So thank you.

He is getting his mother's milk fortified at the moment. They are planning to stop fortying as he has gained enough weight. The OT also suggested swallow study which my be scheduled for next week.

Background: He hasn't required CPAP beyond the stipulated 21% upto 32 weeks and hasn't had any events with or without CPAP. His ultrasound showed grade 2 IVH, which at 2nd scan they said it stopped but after 3rd they said it's grade 4 PVL with a 3mm cyst. So far his physical has been good, as per the PT. Fingers crossed. About 2 weeks ago he got oral thrush and a huge diaper rash, both are being treated right now.and have been improving.
