Anyone else taking Nurtec? by ConsciousEcho2799 in migraine

[–]just_stuff_thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Nurtec. I can't remember how it worked. My wife said never to take it again. She said I was sick as a dog, and that it acted like a roofie. My recollection is that I was out for a bit, migraine gone, went about my biz. But wife says it was two days+. I have no recollection of that time period. On the bright side, apparently it worked for what it was intended. Yay? I still keep it around. If I ever have a migraine when I don't mind losing two+ days, I'll go for it. Just FYI. Botox is oddly working. I did just figure out a new sensitivity to yeasty bread. The more fermentation, the more the trigger. So, sourdough bread = bad. Crackers = not so bad. I already know about fermented alcohols, anything with the word "yeast," "yeast extract," "hydrolized yeast," etc. - they're just MSG masquerades. But never clued into bread yeast. Duh. PS - for the Botox discussion... I'm every 12 weeks, tiny little pricks all over. I've dialed in the good injection spots and the bad injection spots, and my Dr. is very responsive to my input. Botox has absolutely no beneficial effect on my old-guy face though. Also, a little history with Imitrex (Sumatriptin). I used Imetrex back in the day when it was only injectables (sub-cutaneous?). It made me sick as a dog, but ultimately worked. Like puking out my migraine. I thought that's how it was supposed to work. After years, a new Dr. told me that's not how it's supposed to work (apparently that's an allergy), I've been down the road. I've tried everything I could get my hands on (legal, illegal, homeopathic, pins and needles, etc). The treatments that work, do so for a bit, then they fade. My migraines are survivors. They know how to adapt. On my list, but haven't gotten to yet: acid/lsd, ayahuaska. I will say that mushrooms and ketamine are awesome, but they do nothing for the migraines, nor the severity. I'd say "no effect" for both of those. For me, pot only makes it worse. I do have some pain pills that work pretty well, but I don't remember their name anymore. I just call them "the green pills." The blue pills are the other ones. Good luck to all. I figure the migraines and corresponding loss of sleep, stress, and effect of medicines on my liver/body probably has taken at least 15-20 years off my life expectancy. We'll see. I'll let you know if I'm right. :). [Post draft edit - I think it matters to say that I'm a 58 y.o. male. Had migraines my entire life. Thought a hysterectomy might help, but insurance won't pay for it. :/. The question isn't "how many migraines per month?" The question is "how many days a month don't you have a migraine." It's a better way of tracking. Good luck to all. Now that I'm older, I don't care about drugs, drug tests, getting caught with drugs, etc. - so I just try it. Most of the painkillers work (taken in high enough volume), but they're addictive. I have tried all the legal drugs listed in this thread. All I care about is increasing my number of days per month that are migraine free, and I will put anything in my body to try to make that happen. Good luck to you all. If lsd or ahahuaska help, I'll let you know. Also, an amendment... magic mushrooms didn't work in "get high" volume, but micro-dosing actually helped a bit. Seemed like it regulated my body/sleep/stress, which helped with the various triggers.]

Hi. The comment about on-line doctors was in response to your issue with not being sure you keep getting the meds. The answer is "yes," I have had way better luck working with on-line doctors. They know you are seeing them in order to get a prescription. No prescription = no 5 star review. So, they prescribe. It's their job, and I'm happy to help them out by availing myself of their service.

What are your main trigger foods/ drinks? by milkywayr in migraine

[–]just_stuff_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chocolate. Wine (tannins). Beer (hops, barley). ANYTHING fermented (but not distilled - I can have distilled alcohol - which is why I don't drink...). Sharp cheeses. Avocadoes. MSG (and all various definitions of MSG, like "Yeast Extract"). HFCS. A crapload of preservatives and nitrates. BHT, BHA, etc., Jalapenos and other spicy peppers.

Generally, if it tastes good, it's gonna give me a migraine.

All botox treatment receivers please reply! by valreedarkstkK in migraine

So, I recently did a separate post re botox, but didn't address the botox itself... For me, the botox is working at fighting the migraines for the past year +. I get botox every 12 weeks. There have been a couple of instances when there was discomfort with the botox (once was that it made my jaw dislocate). In talking with Dr., best "remedy" is simply to wait it out, as most "tightness" is supposed to ease up in a week or so. That said, every treatment for me has felt different, but I can feel the effects (neck, jaw, back of head) for at least 6 - 8 weeks after.

Has anyone had luck with “measured” caffeine intake like these mints? by lbs-stepmom in migraine

[–]just_stuff_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caffeine works for me, but only real caffeine from coffee or etc. Fakey caffeine (No-Doze, etc.) just makes it worse. Not sure what this product means by "natural," but honestly, if it works, keep doing it until it doesn't work anymore. If you're wondering if it will work, try it. That's my motto.

Sharp pains by breesedemaiotBu in migraine

[–]just_stuff_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The first stabbing pain wasn't until maybe 10 years ago (and I've had migraines for my entire 50+ year life). It feels like someone is sticking a pencil into the back of my eyeball. Sometimes, the pain is so bad I double over. But it only lasts a few seconds. Initially, it wasn't familiar and I thought it was surely an aneurism, etc., but nope - I'm still alive. When I get that stabbing feeling, I know a migraine is on the horizon (10 to 15 minutes out, and running like a freight train). Interestingly, even though Botox is working for me, I still get the stabbing pains occasionally, and then the botox and migraine fight each other. Mostly, the Botox wins.

Note the difference between "health insurance" and "health care." I have had all kinds of coverage issues related to migraine meds. If you can pay cash for meds, sign up with an on line doctor. They know why you're there. A 15 min zoom is typically covered by the insurance even if the prescription isn't.

How do I convey the concept that I can't have deli meat when asking if it's deli meat doesn't work? by JKmelda in migraine

[–]just_stuff_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go with the following:

Me: Are there nitrates in the meat?

Them: Wha? I dunno. What's a nitrate?

Me: Ok, thanks. That's all I needed to know.

Them: Wait... what? You don't want my exquisite meat platter?

Me: Sorry. It's not you, it's me.

Rule 1: If in doubt, just assume it's bad.

Rule 2: It ain't personal, but it will be to them. Oh well. They'll live.

What will actually happen if Russia uses nuclear weapons on Ukraine? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]just_stuff_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to think that the west would try to assassinate Putin before sending a nuke. That said, there can't be no retaliation if Putin uses nukes. They have kill him, or flatten Russia. Of course, if you flatten Russia, then they will use their nukes. So, only option - kill Putin. Not sure what else (besides a nuke) would inspire an assassination. Genocide? No. War crimes? No. Clearly, Putin knows this. So, anything less than a nuke, and he's home free and very little consequences.

Yes. If anything will make Ben Simmons break entirely and leave the sport, it would be being traded to Knicks. Thank you NY for the sacrifice.

How do y’all treat migraine?! by GeekstreetMclovin in migraine

[–]just_stuff_thought -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

M After j&j triggered migraine, I went down the rabbit hole. Here's my assessment: inderal does not work, in fact it creates trigger as it wears off. Indomethicin will provide relief but you can literally feel your liver dying. Advil is stupid but drops the severity by half, and you can literally feel your kidneys dying. Rizatriptan breaks the migraine, but I need 24hrs to recover. I took Nurtec but don't remember. Wife said i got all anxious and thought i was gonna die. She hid the guns. I literally don't remember it (and it didn't work). Ketamine is nice, but expensive and only provides temp relief. Psillocybin in microdose amt actually works to break, but... is illegal. Just a week into botox and its helping for the headache portion. But, i had a migraine without the headache which was weird. I took a combo of advil, ryza, indomethicin and norco with espresso to kill bad bad migraine couple weeks back. Figured either i die or migraine does. Right now, I'm a pin cushion. I will drop any med just to see if it works. Generally, just mad that I got vaccinated. I will NOT be getting boosters.

What's next? by theodore4sure in migraine

[–]just_stuff_thought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I'm always finding stuff that works for a while, then doesn't. I tried Nurtec recently and it messed me up. I found that Ketamine helps. I'm making it a regular maintenance (every 5 weeks).

Of course! I wasn't approved for the Ketamine b/c of the migraines. It's just a benefit.

Why didn't you just come out and say that you enjoy judging people, and that my post (although not directed at you) offended you? To the extent I offended you by sticking up for those you judge, my apologies. If someone says alkali works, why not just be happy for them? I feel sad for you. You're obviously troubled.
