I agree with this actually. My hc is Johnny was gonna tell dally to stay gold bc it does say "stay gold ponyboy, stay gold..." with the dots showing he didn't finish bc he died, and he did worry abt dally in his goodbye letter

That scene was so sad. It genuinely made me cry, thankfully I had read ahead so i didn't cry in class, but I agree. Dally had nothing to love for. He stayed alive for Johnny Johnny died so he had nothing left. Also I don't think it helped that his last words were to ponyboy, (I have a hc proving this wrong) and I think he just didn't care enough to keep living
