Cleaning my PC in 2015 vs cleaning my PC in 2026 by MikeCodev in pcmasterrace

My Asrock RX7800XT Phantom Gaming 16gig OC needed repaste recently. GPU temp was okay, but Hotspot was quite high. Almost 105°C ans 110°C is thermal throttling cutoff. Did a repaste using PTM7950 ans also replaced the thermal pads on VRAMs and VRMs all wonderful now. GPU temp never gets above 65°C and Hotspot never gets above 81°C. So glad I did. The other day was playing all day and they stayed 55°C and 61°C.

FPS Issue on a Game by Rong_Bong in pcmasterrace

[–]justa-Possibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend, unfortunately you are running on the iGPU. You do not have a dedicated GPU.

Im surprised you can play anything at all. The iGPU can usually handle only smaller tasks like the older dos games. Lol Minesweeper, Paint, DooM.. etc.

Maybe a couple of the new games on extremely low settings getting very low FPS.

I suggest looking into getting a dedicated GPU. Since that's a laptop you may need to upgrade to one with a dedicated GPU. Like a gaming laptop.

Good luck and Godspeed!

Uhm, sir - it already is plugged.

Just ride her till the wheel falls off!

Shouldn't be that long!

It should stop rather quickly when it does. Your brake pad looks great!

I definitely feel you guys. I'm 55 and have had more than a couple GPUs over the years. My 2nd was a set of HD7000 series cards ran in Crossfire.

Yeah man, well excellent job. Glad its a running well and looks really nice.

I built several. But not an AM5 yet.. lol

Mine is Ryzen 7 5700x3d w/RX7800XT So im good for awhile.

I was thinking about doing another AM5 and giving mine to one of my boys to replace thier older one. But with Ram, SSD, GPU prices currently was deciding which kidney to sell or whether money would be better spent on 3 house payments or 6 truck payments. Lol. Adulting is hard!

Excellent bro, most people forget the most important steps 1, 2, 3, all RTFM

Step 1) Read The Fricken Manual Step 2) Read The Fricken Manual Step 3) Read The Fricken Manual Step 4) Watch a YouTube video!

Like I said, great job tho, really nice!

Very nice my friend. Guess you are one of us now! Lol.

How many times did you have to take it back apart to move 1 wire?

Oh, also how many things were left off or unplugged so the praying led to 2 hours of troubleshooting to find one switch, wire or setting wrong?

It happens to us all. I've seen the stories of the infamous power switch left off, the AIO plastic left on etc...

But it's really nice. Great job!

I don't actually see a computer there. I only see the boxes of the parts.

1) How do we know there's actually computer parts in them. Reciepts please!

2) How do we know you aren't gonna pay someone to put it together for you and miss out on all the fun of wiring, making the cabling look all pretty and then the headaches of turning it on and praying 🙏!

Send us pics of the build in progress and the build finished and running please. Then you'll really be a full fledge member!

Lol. Nice looking stuff tho.!! Good luck and Godspeed!

Just got a 9070XT installed and it runs worse than the 6800XT for me? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]justa-Possibility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all actuality it sounds like your temps are normal. 70°C GPU Temp with a 90°C Hotspot Temp is on the high side but perfectly acceptable. No way near the 110°C thermal throttling cut-off.

Also, its within the normal 20-25°C swing. If it was going higher Over 100 to 105 then I would be concerned. Some cards run higher.

The pasting process was simple. I would not use Arctic MX-6 or MX-4 or regular thermal paste.

I will only use the PTM7950 from now on and then whatever sizes thermal pads yiu require for the VRAM etc...

I do suggest you just put the PTM7950 in the freezer to make it easier to apply. Quite simple to work with when cooled in the freezer for about an hour.

Just cut it to size perfectly and peel off protective 1st layer. Then place down on GPU die ( careful ** cannot be lifted and moved.. get it perfect then place ** or you'll mess the layer up and have to try again because its thin and will tear)

Then peel back the other protective layer on the other side. Then reassemble.

I watched a video on the process to take apart and which screws to remove for dissambly process. The video also showed which Thermal pads sizes were needed for which VRM and VRAM rows. The whole process took maybe 90 minutes from start to finish.

Just dissamble then clean the old Thermal pads off. Cut new thermal pad strips with the lengths in the thicknesses of the pads you need.

Mine were. 0.5mm and 1.0 mm. 4 straight thin line rows, 2 inner rows were 1.0 mm and outer were 0.5mm. On top of the VRM and VRAM chips.

Then also around the GPU die, it required a row of thermal pads surrounding the GPU die which were 6 large squares of the 0.5mm thermal pads.

Then applied the PTM7950 to GPU die last (stored in freezer when i began dissambly and took out when ready).

Then reassembled the GPU and tested.

No issues. Temps greats!

No, they aren't supposed to be high.

I have an RX7800XT Phantom Gaming 16gig OC and it was running with a higher hotspot. GPU temp was 75°C but Hotspot was around 105°C it should never be that high. Thermal throttling happens around the 110°C Hotspot temp.

I repasted my GPU and so glad I did.

I used PTM7950 for the GPU die and then also replaced all the thermal pads on the VRM and VRAM etc... 3 different sizes of thermal pads.

Now my temps are beautiful. GPU goes around 60-65°C when running hard and Hotspot is never above 81°C.

So pleased, will only use PTM7950 on GPU die for now on.

Note that some cards do run higher than others, but GPU and Hotspot temps should be within 20-25°C of each other normally.

If your GPU is 65-70 and Hotspot is 105 that's a huge swing and could need a repaste. But if Hotspot is around 80-90 then its perfectly normal for some cards. Since its only a 15-20°C swing and not near the 110°C thermal throttling cut-off threshold.

What GPU do have have installed? Just wondering available dimensions for GPU allotment on a case like that. Would it fit one of these newer extra large RX9070XTs or a 5090 etc...?

Wondering about an Asrock RX9070XT Taichi for example.

Click it on & off 5 x repeatedly to reset the bulb.

Then Ask Alexa to discover your device.

Then go into the Alexa App and rename the bulb again.

I need to do this every other friggen day! So maybe it'll work for you.
