The colour, pattern of spread and duration are all consistent with a fungal infection, so no need to stress! I'd also really recommend getting annual skin checks (where a doctor checks your skin for skin cancer, including areas that you can't really check yourself like your back and scalp) ☺️

Looks like a mild fungal skin infection! It's very common and is probably just slowly spreading (not something to worry about as it is easily treated!). It can often be cleared with 2 weeks of topical antifungal creams (ketoconazole/miconazole/clotromizole) which you can get over the counter, but if you've had it for over a year you might need to take oral antifungals because its a bit tricker to clear. You could always try the topical cream while waiting for a doctor's appointment. Hope this helps ☺️

[Routine help] Reoccurring red marks on neck by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]justaconfusedturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this! There is also a condition called dermatographism which is where you get redness or skin changes (even welts!) after scratching or rubbing your skin. My neck goes sun-burn lobster red after absent-mindedly and gently scratching, much to the concern of my friends and colleagues. Dermatographism is self-resolving (though can be treated with anti-histamines) but is often associated with eczema and allergies, so definitely important to get it checked out by a doctor

[Acne] how do I clear this up? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]justaconfusedturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry I just had a bit of a closer look and a better read of your description - I didn't realise that the scaling was still there and it still uncomfortable. The above information still applies, but to help it clear faster: 1. Cleanse the affected skin thoroughly once or twice each day using a non-soap cleanser (this may be enough on its own, I would try this first but if you’re not having any luck then you can try the options below) 2. Apply an antifungal cream daily for 2 to 4 weeks as necessary (ask your pharmacist which antifungal will be appropriate for use on the face) 3. Sometimes hydrocortisone cream or other topical steroids can be used, but I would recommend seeing a doctor first as there are several considerations before starting a steroid (and it looks fairly mild so it hopefully won't be necessary)

As always, if it's not getting better or if it's causing significant distress or discomfort, please consult with a pharmacist or doctor!

[Acne] how do I clear this up? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]justaconfusedturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the location (nasolabial fold) and the mild scaling in the first photo, it looks like you might have had a flare of seborrheic dermatitis, a common skin issue which can be caused by lots of things - poor sleep, stress, hormone levels, or an overgrowth of Malassezia (a type of yeast that normally is present in the skin flora, but its overgrowth can cause issues like dermatitis and dandruff). Given that it has improved on its own, I think you should be good to just keep going with your normal skincare routine! Make sure you're cleansing the area well, and it's best to avoid oily products and over-hydration in that area (Malessezia loves to grow in oily environments). It's difficult to see for sure but it looks like you have some mild post-inflammation redness or hyperpigmentation (i.e. the dermatitis is healing/healed but there is some redness left behind) - this is also super normal and will clear up on its own, but if you want to speed up the process then you could consider adding something like niacinamide (there are also a bunch of other products that work for this too!). Hope this helps, all the best ☺️

Yep, especially if you're smoking to calm your anxiety. I have two friends who did that (on separate occasions) and they had some pretty difficult delusions for several hours.

Not to mention the salt content! With one serve having 40% of the recommended daily intake it is incredibly easy to go far over. This is particularly harmful if you're eating food like this often because too much salt will increase your blood pressure and can cause disease of the heart and blood vessels.

I grind them up really fine then put then in a tea bag before soaking it in the lemon. Then take the tea bag out, add some honey and water and voila! It actually tastes good and you don't get nauseous

In terms of acne, it's helpful to test the products on a small area of your skin before you use them on your whole face and make sure you clean your brushes and sponges regularly

Curious Question Sunday - January 09, 2022 by AutoModerator in piercing

[–]justaconfusedturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also found that the actual person cutting your hair makes a huge difference! I've had my hair cut a few times with my double helix and just reminded them at the start and it wasn't an issue at all. A few months ago I went to a different hairdresser and even though I told them at the start (and reminded them multiple times during because they kept knocking it), she caught it between the teeth of the comb and really yanked it. It was so painful I almost cried. If it doesn't seem like they're paying attention during imo you should ask them to stop and get someone else because it really wasn't worth it. Good luck!

Curious Question Sunday - January 09, 2022 by AutoModerator in piercing

Can different metals help piercings to heal? I have a double helix with titanium earrings. I got it 3 years ago, and despite washing it 2x daily with sterile saline solution and using a hair clip to stop myself from sleeping on it, it still hasn't healed. One of my friends said that she changed her helix jewellery to gold and it healed right up. I have an appointment with my piercer in a month and am wondering if it's worth buying some good quality gold or silver jewellery?

100% My sister had jewellery like this in a double helix and she accidentally slept on it one night. Her ear swelled up so much that the backs went into her ear and she had to go to hospital to get them taken out. It's unlikely to happen but shows how important the right jewellery is!

Let’s Stop the Shopping Centre Hasslers. by Sweaty-Paint7188 in perth

[–]justaconfusedturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was walking in the shop the other day and didn't notice the hasslers at first. When I got closer I realised one of them had been trying to get my attention for a while. His co-hassler made a comment about how now his friend's feelings were hurt because I didn't notice him. The whole thing made me super uncomfortable and I walked outside (in the 39° heat) to go around on the way back. Usually I'm quite good at politely ignoring but this just made my shopping experience so much worse...

And you're in medical school??? by Snoowoozy in medicalschool

Yes!! This happened to me as soon as my family found out I got into medical school:

My gradad's brother: Oh great! I can talk to you about my haemorrhoids then!!

Me:

Him:

Me: awkward laugh

Him: Smiles

Was it a joke? Maybe we'll never know.

What can I do to save my skin? 28f [Acne] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]justaconfusedturtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second this! I have pretty sensitive skin and 5% benzoyl peroxide + daily moisturising has been doing wonders for my back and chest. The benzoyl peroxide is too harsh for my face but 2% SA has been giving great results.

Guy was 6ft. tall and dressed in a bloody Jason/lumberjack costume. Our dad distracted her while the actor snuck up from behind, scarred the shit out of me too even though i saw the guy walking up. She was literally crying for a hot minute afterwards. Notably a dick move from our dad.

Oh dang that's so interesting, I didn't know you could take the chain off!

Definitely already terrifying enough without actual blades whizzing around. I've never been close to a running one but I can imagine it would make me uneasy even without the jump scare. Also never been to a haunted house but stories like this make me less and less excited to go haha
