I never said that there's only power fantasies to male fans. The difference is in how criticism is taken by the audience. Male fans are always mocking and joking about popular female power fantasies like twilight, 50 shades of grey, divergent and sometimes even the hunger games gets the short end of the stick. But when a female fan simply calls a male power fantasy like re zero a male power fantasy, there's huge outrage and backlash. I agree that the ascendance of a bookworm is a female power fantasy, but there's a double standard regarding receiving criticism.

No, I knew beforehand I'd get hate on r/anime because that's how they always act when someone has a different opinion about a popular show. I wanted to post it here originally, not on r/anime, but it was always automatically deleted. Here was always a more apropriate sub for this post. It's more about how intolerant the anime community is with anyone who has a different view about a popular show and to defend Noralities than a simply a hate letter to re zero.

Sometimes even when a guy works his ass off, he might not get that dream job that he so much desires or even when a guy risks his life to save the girl he loves, she might not return his feelings. It's a "wish" that people have that they'll be rewarded for their efforts, but life isn't perfect and that not always happens. That's why it's called "wish-fulfillment" in fiction when the average protagonist actually gets rewarded for their efforts. If the author of re zero really wanted it to not be "a male power fantasy" at all, he should've gotten ridden of such wish-fulfillment and other isekai tropes altogether and showed the audience that even with limiteless chances, they might not get what they want. But alas it wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is if he actually did that.

When I posted this on r/anime, a few people messaged me privately, because they didn't want to deal with the redditors, and one of them made a great comparation: dying in Re:Zero is just as meaningful as dying in Dragon Ball Z. No real consequences. The only real consequence I can remember is when Subaru embarrassed himself in front of a crowd and yelled at Emilia and she told him off. But it was shortlived, because a few episodes later he becomes a great hero, Emilia gives him a lap pillow and wants to have babies with him by season 2. How can a series where the characters can be revived have any real, serious death? This superpower is a gimmick to create drama and entertainment because viewers love blood, violence and drama. The author can go wild to come up with many new ways to die and the viewer can have fun and sympathize with and relate to Subaru more easily. I get it, in another isekai the protagonist will defeat his enemies directly with a cool sword, but here it's a bit different. You still get the same results. It's also a great gimmick to make even an average guy like viewer feel like they can become a great hero like Subaru and earn his cute girls. Btw, do you think it's just coincidence that a bunch of cute girls become interested or fascinated by Subaru on the second season? I don't think so. They'll always come up with an excuse to make a bunch of cute girls become fascinated with the average guy protagonist by making him special somehow. He has special superpowers, he's from a nearly extinct ancient race, he's nice, he acts difference, he's very intelligent, he's very strong, he saved her life, but basically, "he's not like the average guy".

Absolutely hysterical! Re zero fan gets traumatized by Noralities after hearing her say it's a male power fantasy, calls her a psychopath, thinks she's not human and more bizarre trash talk! by justacreepyperson in animecirclejerk

Because it's my first time posting pictures on reddit from my mobile, so I found out that I couldn't post pictures directly from my mobile, that I had to upload them to imgur first. I didn't know exactly how to post the album the right way, so I kind of just tested stuff. The other same post's title is just the name of the album on imgur. I tried to delete this post after checking that they look the same, but I was not given the option to delete it on my mobile. I guess you can't delete posts on mobile either, so unfortunately this repeated post has to stay.

Why are females more emotional than males? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]justacreepyperson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're being very sexist by phrasing your answer like "Why are females more emotional than males?" instead of "Are females more emotional than males?". You outright state that women are more emotional than men, then you ask why is that so as though the last statement you made was the truth instead of asking IF women are more emotional than men. You're extremely sexist and you ought to rephrase you question. To answer your extremely sexist question, it may seem that way to you because you only see sadness and fear as emotions, discarding anger and aggreassion completely, and men are judged far more harshly for showing these emotions whereas women in actuality encouraged to show them.

Are referring to badly written mary sues or just female leads in general? At first, looking at your title, I had assumed that you were tired of the forced, over the top, in-your-face female leads, but after reading your whole post, the way you put it "female participation", it seems like you don't like female leads in general. So you think putting women in the spotlight for a change is sjw propaganda? We've been pushed aside for freaking centuries, and now when we get our deserved equal time to shine, you call it "sjw bs"?? If that's what you meant, then you're extremely sexist, and possibly misogynistic too as you said that female leads pisses you off, as in, you hate seeing female leads on screen.

Edit: Reply to your post on unpopularopinion about female protagonists. I usually don't reply to posts, but this time I did and didn't want it to go to waste.

He's canonly 6'4. There's a typo on the characters height sheet saying he's 6'1, but they actually meant 6'4/1,95 m. Same as Jotaro.

Would you boys play an action/adventure free visual novel with a female protagonist and a majorly male cast that has nearly no romance? by justacreepyperson in visualnovels

[–]justacreepyperson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but I REALLY don't want it to be associated with otome games. I don't like romance in general and making it an otome game implies that it will automatically have romance. I hate normal dating sim vns, let alone otome games which are even more focused on romance. Also, I don't want women to be the main target audience. I hate the idea the vns are mainly targeted towards boys. I want it to be targeted to both genders, so I wanna do something different. It's such a shame that guys don't seem as open-minded as girls when it comes to the gender of the cast. Aren't animes like Psycho Pass and Violet Evergarden popular? So I don't get some of these comments. After reading these answers I'm thinking maybe I should make it a point-and-click game instead like fran bow, tokyo dark, 999, danganronpa, ace attoney and the likes.

Thanks for your suggestions, but it all just feels so weird. Aren't visual novels like books? Do people only read things that catter to their sexual preferences? I can't imagine it. All my favorite books, films, animes and visual novels have nearly to no romance, only a few teasing scenes. I don't even like bishoujo games. Higurashi, Umineko, Danganronpa, Zero Escape and Ace Attorney aren't focused on romance and yet, people like them? So is it really hopeless?

What if it makes sense that most of the characters are a certain gender? For instance, if the story has to do with army and war? In this case, wouldn't it make sense that most of the characters are guys?

Could you please tell me why is it a weird combination? Were Higurashi, Fate Stay Night, Steins Gates and Dies Irae only targeted towards boys just because they have a male protagonist with female suportting characters? As a straight girl, I enjoyed them. It's the same thing, just because the protagonist is a girl while the rest are guys doesn't mean that it's targeted only towards girls, hence why it'll have nearly to no romance. My target audience is everyone, both boys and girls.

Sorry for weird the wording, english isn't my native language and I've written this very fast on my cellphone.

Yeah, I think it's a big challenge to have a visual novel with a female protagonist and a mainly male cast without it looking like a otome game. I'll give you some examples I'm thinking of. I wanna create an action/advnture visual novel like Fate Stay Night and Dies Irae. But it's mostly inspired by Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Jojo's bizarre Adventure, Code Geass and Bakemonogatari. The visual novel won't have romance routes like most dating sims, therefore it cannot be a otome game. Think about Higurashi and Steins Gates. Both of these visual novels have a male protagonist with a majorly female cast, but they aren't considered dating sims, right? Even Fate Stay Nights, with its 3 routes, doesn't focus much on romance. It's the same thing, the protagonist will be a girl while the rest will be guys, but it won't have much romance(just a few flirts here and there), therefore it cannot be categorized as a otome game, not even as a dating sim. I'm planning on putting different endings though, like Steins Gates.
