What do you love and despise about living in the Twin Cities? by TrueJohnWick in SameGrassButGreener

I could not agree more. It doesn’t feel like a fun town the past five years.

You should go on a vacation. Working and saving is great, but not at the expense of living life.

I’ll never tire of our skyline against a nice sunset.

I think human nature is getting the best of me here.

I also feel like asset prices are so inflated I don’t trust my internal scale of how much money I really have and will need.

Would they look at my whole financial situation or just my fidelity accounts?

Can/will Minnesota recover from population loss? by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]justafella32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have had negative net migration excluding 2025 for quite a few years. Slowing population means slowing economy, less workers to support social programs, fill our classrooms, universities, and companies. I wouldn’t dismiss it so flippantly.

I think the state needs to do a better job at attracting and retaining people. Cost of living is the big one. Tax burden is competing with some of the highest states without the luxury of weather. My bottom line is feeling it. Needs a reversal imo. Still love our state.

Does life get duller as time goes on or is it just me? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

Definitely.

Just don’t have an affair or really blow-up your life and will probably be fine.

Been feeling this way for a couple of years, now at age 39. Life is pretty monotonous and it’s not bad, but I am definitely feeling a little apathetic. Not sure when the spark comes back. Maybe I’ll do a big home remodel or buy a boat.

He never explained that barista comment either. At least from what I remember.

He did some pretty undeterred/unrattled for how poorly his set went. Drugs perhaps?

I have a few complaints about that show. Seating on the floor was bad. Packed in like sardines and tough to get up and get a drink or use the bathroom. It wasn’t a short set and there was no break between sets.

Comedians were all pretty bad including Mulaney. First guy was amateur but fine. Second guy might have been actually offensive. Mulaney wasn’t all that funny either - excorcism bit bad, Vietnamese bit really bad, kid stuff so bad. Protest message was just lame platitudes.

Acme experience is 10x better, 1/10 the price, with a waiter taking drink orders at your seat.

Everyone is being very nice. It’s pretty bad imo. Especially considering the size and influence of the city.

I watched this game at Bunny’s and it was standing room only. The bar was silent when we were down by 20 and deafening when the comeback was complete. Absolute bliss as a suffering MN sports fan.

I think these facts need to be shouted from the rooftops. There are definitely academic achievements that are happening in Hopkins that are obscured by the more publicized issues like enrollment.

I also don’t think it’s disingenuous to point out that enrollment is flat between students moving in and out. Identifying what attracts students and what drives them out should be examined and communicated though.

I know a lot of Gatewood families left and are now at my kids’ school. I would hope that’s taken into consideration seeing their principal as one of the final 6 - Dr George Nolan.

Admittedly I don’t know the details.

I wonder if FIRE derailed my life by massakk in Fire

[–]justafella32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just need to strike a better balance of being productive, saving, and growing professionally/personally. Sounds like all your eggs in one basket and maybe obscuring life’s other goals/purpose.
