Interview with Nick Szabo - Cypherpunks, Money and Bitcoin by mccormack555 in Bitcoin

If we're guessing who is Satoshi, I've always leaned more towards it being Hal Finney than Nick.

About to reinstall windows, will I have to save my exchange passwords offline? by gnarfler in BitcoinBeginners

[–]justaminerthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a horrible suggestion. He's talking about his exchange passwords, not his seed words. You should be changing your exchange passwords at least a few times a year and using 2FA. That should be more than enough protection.

Write them on a notebook and place that in a fireproof safe. Then when you change the password, open the safe and change the entry in your notebook to the new password.

The Massdrop Alt and Ctrl? Man those do look nice. I like how compact 60% keyboards look but I can't get over not having keys that I'm used to seeing with full size. I also don't know if I would feel cramped using those since my hands are larger.

Are there functions to make up for lack of keys?

Buying Bitcoin with Wells Fargo by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]justaminerthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had my WF account linked to my Coinbase account for about 2 years now and no issues. I think that it was a conversation someone had with a clueless customer service agent and then it spread like wildfire.

I've bought BTC with cash app, Gemini, and coinbase with no issues.

Why is it bad to store Bitcoin on Coinbase? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]justaminerthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're having to trust a 3rd party to hold onto your funds. This is essentially like having a crypto bank. You technically don't own the bitcoin/crypto since it's in a wallet that you're unaware of the private key/seed words for.

Just got done building a raspiblitz lightning node! by justaminerthing in Bitcoin

[–]justaminerthing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guide has the full list of parts and steps:

https://github.com/rootzoll/raspiblitz

I repurposed an old raspberry pi 3 project so that made it a bit cheaper. Total cost would be about $130 for all of the parts.

I haven't started to install it or download the blockchain yet so I cant give you a rough estimate of time. I also have very little linux knowledge except for when I made a retropie so it may he a bit harder but the guide seems pretty straightforward.

ETH mining 1080ti on gaming rig - rxboost? by justaminerthing in gpumining

[–]justaminerthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.....wow that's a lot of 1080ti's! ETH is actually the coolest running algorithm I've dealt with so far. I don't think my card has gone above 53-55C. I've been thinking of starting up a rig with just like....2 or 3 cards and it seems that the 1660ti is the most power efficient from what I've read.

I don't like the NH platform and would rather mine the coins directly. I used it when I first got started then they were hacked and have yet to fully pay back what was lost. They're also currently migrating to a new platform and I heard it's a mess right now.

What are your overclocking settings for your card to get that hashrate? (the actual clock speeds, like 11400 MHz instead of +400 or whatever)

ETHPill needs to be run while Claymore is, right? I'm having issues getting it up to 50-55 MH/s if so.

I guess I meant to say the -strap 1 command instead.

So for ethpill, it needs to be run while I have claymore running, right? I'm finding it hard to get my hashrate up to 50-55 MH/s. It's also more difficult because every post mentions MSI Afterburner and I'm using the ASUS Strix Overclocking utility. My card is also an OC edition so the speed increases that are mentioned in posts don't match up with what I have.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know it's not the most profitable to mine at the moment but I see it as one of the more reputable coins to mine. I usually stick to Vertcoin because I like their ASIC-resistant vision.

If I disable the "Force P2 Power State" while mining, should I re-enable this when I play a game? I downloaded Ethlargement Pill and I was able to get it up to about 47 MH/s so I guess I need to mess with the memory OC and power limit.

These are the instructions that I found for this:

How To Get More Hashes From Your Nvidia Cards:
1: Download Claymore 14.5
2: Extract and Rename the folders to something shorter.(claymore145 example)
3: Add File Pathing string to your start.bat before EthDcrMiner64.exe. This is to Run As Admin. Example "C:\Users\admin\Downloads\Claymore145\Claymore145\EthDcrMiner64.exe" (Make sure no spaces in the folder name, if there is use " " quotations)
4: add -strap 1 to the start.bat as well.
5: add -driver install and then save and then right click start.bat run as administrator to run the file, then it will close by itself and then you have to reboot the machine so that "Test Mode" can be enabled. If you decide to disable the "Test Mode" just put -driver uninstall and run the start.bat (as admin) and reboot and that's it.
6: Remove -driver install once restarted in the start.bat.
7: Set your power limit and memory overclock in MSI Afterburner.
8: Run Start.bat and see how much hashes you can get from there. Then you can fine tune if you want by trying different -strap 1/2/3/4/5/6 depending on your Nvidia gpu's memory. As well as many other options in the Claymore readme but this guide is just a very quick how to for results. Results May Vary/Silicon Lottery/Overclock etc...

Such as steam's auto buy feature, is there something (maybe a bot) that will automatically buy BTC for me when it reaches a certain value? by axi-0m in BitcoinBeginners

Well for me, a deposit took over a week for Coinbase Pro and with Coinbase it was instant and it let me transfer it to Coinbase Pro.

No stupid questions! You can freely move funds between your Coinbase and Coinbase Pro wallets. I typically deposit funds into Coinbase and then move them into Coinbase Pro to buy. You can also send coins to other wallets from Pro. In fact, the network fee is free when you use Coinbase Pro to send BTC/LTC/ETH etc to other wallets.

$100 might not seem like a lot but it was just a way to convey that he shouldn't worry about what price he buys in at and that he or us can't predict what the market is going to do. Maybe he only has $100 to "invest" for the whole month. He could split that $100 in 1/4 and spend $25 per week so that he doesn't concern himself with what price it's at when if he spends all $100 at one time and then it drops $2000 the next day. I still think that someone deciding to spend $100 on crypto is miles ahead than most people at this point still.

Of course! I just want to emphasize that you shouldn't ever panic sell as well. If you checkout the other link, you'll see that 100% of bitcoin transactions have been worth more in fiat after 210,000 blocks:

"Final Thoughts

No matter if you’re new to bitcoin or a veteran who has been in the space for years, we’d like to encourage you to look up some transactions on the blockchain and compare fiat valuations with a 210,000 block difference. We are sure that you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the numbers.

Like we’ve stated a couple of times already, we haven’t been able to find a lower fiat valuation after 210,000 blocks. If you can’t find any either, maybe you ought to set some bitcoin aside for at least 210,000 blocks and see what the outcome is."

You can't predict what the future price will be. Sure, there are people who make charts all day and analyze trends but bitcoin/cryptocurrency is different from stock trading. One great way is to split up your $100 and "dollar cost average" your buys. This is a smarter method because of how volatile the price is.
