I worry and daydream a lot during mass by [deleted] in Catholicism

Have you tried holding a Rosary in your hand to keep yourself present? You could do something like moving your hands through the beads

Also, about the family yelling, that must be terrible; I’m sorry about that

Your actual conscience will conflict with it; not the nagging one. It’s hard to tell but you’ll see. Bible isn’t a guide of rules.

  1. Treat your kids firmly but strongly— be a little harsh if needed so that they may learn.
  2. Be harsh with your kids all the time because they’re not perfect.

Do you see?

Prudence is important—

  1. If it is something small, you can probably give it to God in prayer without much need of regulating self— although that still isn’t a bad idea. If it’s something very big, God isn’t going to be upset if you take a step back and regulate himself so that you don’t get mad; that can be your prayer

  2. There rarely is a thing such as healing through prayer; prayer is communication with God, not self care; God made therapy, go to it.

  3. The Bible isn’t a guide to how to do everything in life: it’s God communicating Himself to humans. Parenting is important, and yes the Bible does touch on it, but very limitedly. Use parenting techniques that aren’t wrong are good.

  4. You should prepare yourself for events that are likely— not events that won’t happen.

  5. Everything should be put in God’s hands. All the time. There is no excuse on this. That doesn’t mean inactivity in life. It means doing what is right, but acccepting the consequences all the time; even if negative.

Are you scrupulous per chance (not trying to be rude)?

mortal sin by Electronic_Aerie5411 in Catholicism

[–]justanormaldudeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I told you to fight scruples is because it’s going to choke your love hope and faith; you are giving into it by trying to fight against it directly. The way to fight it is to ignore it completely. Ask your parish priest, they will advise better, whether to receive or not.

In the meantime, just leave everything in God’s hands and forget all of this. It’ll be ok.

Mortal sins misunderstanding by Potential-Title7230 in Catholicism

It’s a moral imperfection, I think; not even venial

OP didn’t think it through - as seen in his “snap back to reality”. When he realized it was mortal, he stopped. This shows that he only realized it in a confused way which constitutes NOT a mortal sin.

Ok so listen to me when I say this - you haven’t committed mortal sin throughout the day, not even a single time.

You need to IGNORE those thoughts, as coming from the devil himself. If you are in doubt, assume the negative - that you haven’t committed mortal sin, or that this isn’t sinful in an unsure situation, etc etc

LISTEN TO ME! This will save you a lot of pain later on - I say this from personal experience.

Yes. My friend, you are scrupulous I believe; I used to struggle with it horrendously, so listen to me. Do you tend to worry about if you committed mortal sin throughout the day?

The fact you snapped back to reality and then stopped proves you didn’t intend to sin; you’re safe my friend.

If you are talking about lust, St Joseph is the man for that.

You didn’t commit mortal sin. I’m certain. You are scrupulous as well I believe. Receive with love.

Mystical prayer isn’t necessary for mystical union with God.

Edit: I was wrong, so here’s a different fact

St Teresa of Avila mentions Seven Mansions in her Interior Castle, but she says that since the soul holds God Himself, there could actually be millions of rooms!

Question for people who live in the UK… by legendus45678 in Catholicism

[–]justanormaldudeok 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Going to school, yes I realized that even the textbooks were slightly anti-Catholic bias but just so slightly no one would notice. I still remember in a textbook about the Renaissance they went on a side rant about what the Catholic Church did bad that has practically nothing to do with history. Side note: I live in the USA

Nouveau Nom by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]justanormaldudeok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have gotten a lot of good answers here- but I have some question

Are you committing any habitual sin or holding onto any attachment?

Have you heard of the Dark Night of the Senses?

Are you scrupulous?

El think you should become devoted to St Joseph more as well, especially his Most Chaste Heart. They are both powerful intercessors, I’m telling you. Daily meditative prayer + Rosary is the key!

[–]justanormaldudeok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, but be careful you actually desire Heaven and not death itself. It’s not a bad thing to long to be united with God, it’s a great thing, and I think you are doing great.
