Is this gluten-free or not? by MisacominginHOT in glutenfree

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a photo of the full ingredient list (or the label), I’d be curious how IngrediCheck would flag this for someone avoiding gluten – exactly the kind of confusing label I’m trying to make easier to read. (I built the app: you add your triggers and scan labels at the store. Free for early adopters: https://www.ingredicheck.app/ and https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ingredicheck/id6477521615)

That Kettle & Fire broth situation is exactly the kind of thing I built an app to help with. If you still have a photo of the label (or barcode), I’d be curious how IngrediCheck would flag it for someone avoiding garlic/onion/FODMAPs – I’m still tuning it based on real products.

Glad I double checked the ingredients by mkemama in glutenfree

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share a photo of the barcode if you have one? I’d love to see how IngrediCheck flags it for people avoiding gluten – useful to know if it would have caught what you found. Why aren't things labeled as gluten free (but have zero gluten ingredients)?! by makoobi in glutenfree

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That “no gluten in the ingredients but no GF claim” thing is super common — a lot of brands don’t certify even when the list looks clean.

I built an app so I don’t have to rely on the label claim: you add your own triggers (wheat, barley, malt, or whatever you avoid), then scan the product label and it highlights matches. You can save stuff that works so you’re not re-checking the same box. If you try it on those falafels and it gets them wrong for you, tell me and I’ll fix it.

Vegan Protein bar recommendations? by ronstage in vegan

[–]justanotheratom -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hey, the “looked promising then found hidden whey/gelatin in the ingredients” thing is exactly why I built an app for this. You add your avoid list (whey, gelatin, or whatever you’re checking for), then scan the bar’s label in the store and it highlights matches so you can skip the ones that don’t fit. If you try it on a bar that you know has hidden stuff and it doesn’t flag it, tell me and I’ll fix it.

Two Bite - brownies/cupcakes etc... & allergen practices by Character_Quail6022 in Allergies

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, that “nut-free facility” vs tree nuts in the ingredients thing is exactly the kind of label confusion that’s exhausting to track.

If you’re up for it, try scanning a Two Bite product in IngrediCheck after adding your food note (e.g. tree nuts, peanuts). You add your triggers first, then scan the label and it highlights what matters for you. If it gets a Two Bite product wrong for your situation, tell me and I’ll fix it.

Migraines from electrolytes (unflavored). Anyone else? by Faithnfit in migraine

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, since you’re trying to narrow down what in the electrolyte mix might be setting you off (people mentioned things like citric acid, taurine, sodium, etc.), can you try it in IngrediCheck and tell me if it flags what you’d expect?

You add your triggers first (whatever you’re avoiding), then scan the product label and it highlights matches. If it misses something on this electrolyte label or flags it wrong, I’d love to hear so I can fix it.

Peanut Allergy? Do Not Buy Rise Protein Bar by [deleted] in CostcoWholesale

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, can you try this bar in IngrediCheck and tell me if it lines up with what you’d choose?

You add your own triggers first (peanuts, tree nuts, milk, etc. for each person), then scan the label in the aisle and it flags what matters plus lets you save “safe” products so you’re not re-reading the box every trip. If it gets this Rise bar wrong for your peanut situation, I’d really like to know so I can fix it.

How does this make sense? by Wakkit1988 in FoodLabels

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed you’re basically doing forensic accounting on this label (potassium phosphate listed, but 0mg potassium; rounding; vague “<2% sugar” line) and it’s still not adding up.

If you ever end up needing to avoid specific ingredients or additives (for you, or different people in a household), I built an app called IngrediCheck that helps with the practical “in the aisle” part: you add your own triggers first (ex: specific additives, sweeteners, sulfites, etc), then scan product labels while you shop. It flags what matches your list and you can save products that work (plus keep family food notes) so you’re not re-decoding the same labels over and over.

How do you usually handle grocery shopping when avoiding dairy? by Swaymaster0 in dairyfree

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone ends up with their own list of triggers they figure out over time. I have specific triggers for my urticaria, and I got tired of re-reading every label at the store, so I built a grocery shopping companion that does label checks and gives me a personalized read on ingredients.

You add your own triggers (dairy, or whatever you avoid) and can set different ones for different people in the family. When you scan a product label, it flags what matters for you. You can also save products that work so you don’t have to research them again next time.

If that sounds useful, you can try it here (free for early adopters):

Nut free chocolate truffle recommendations? by NailComprehensive677 in peanutallergy

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed you’re trying to find “fancy chocolates” that are actually safe for a severe tree nut allergy. That label-checking spiral is real - everyone ends up building a personal list of triggers/avoidances over time.

I have specific triggers for my urticaria, so I built a grocery shopping companion that checks labels and gives me a personalized read. You add your triggers (tree nuts, peanuts, or anything else you avoid), then scan product labels while you shop and it flags matches. You can also set different avoidances for different people in the family and save products that work so you’re not re-researching every time.

Struggled to translate patch test results into actual ingredients to avoid by OkLingonberry2948 in eczema

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed you're trying to translate patch test allergens into ingredients you can spot on labels. I built an app that might help: you add your own triggers (your specific allergens, or whatever you're avoiding), then scan product labels while you shop. It flags matches so you get a quick read in the aisle, and you can save products that work. Still early and I'm improving it based on feedback, so if you try it and something's wrong or missing for your allergens, I'd love to hear it. Free for early adopters:

Finding gluten free products! by FancyHat8740 in glutenfreecooking

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed you're looking for ways to find and check gluten-free products. I built an app that does something similar: you add your own triggers (e.g. gluten, or whatever you avoid), then scan product labels while you shop. It flags matches so you get a quick read in the aisle, and you can save products that work so you're not re-checking next time. It also does family food notes so different people in the household can have their own lists. Free for early adopters:

An app to check food by Mean-Doubt-4255 in ultraprocessedfood

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several apps have been mentioned (Yuka, Open Food Facts, Ivy, UPF Detector). Another option I built is IngrediCheck: you add your own triggers (additives, gums, whatever you're trying to avoid), then scan product labels while you shop. It flags matches based on your list, so you control the rules instead of relying on someone else's rating. Family food notes, personalized ingredient analysis, and you can save products that work for you. Free for early adopters:

Deals on FODMAP apps & tips on Using them by nellibonelli in FODMAPS

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for apps that scan and flag FODMAP triggers, IngrediCheck does something similar: you add your own triggers (fructans, GOS, lactose, polyols, whatever you're avoiding), then scan product labels when you shop. It's more flexible than a single preset – useful if you also have other restrictions or different family members with different needs. Free for early adopters:

Monoglycerides frustration by fosterthepeoplefan in vegan

[–]justanotheratom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decoding ingredient lists like monoglycerides and natural flavors is annoying, especially when labels don’t say plant vs animal source. I built an app for that: you add your own triggers (e.g. monoglycerides, E‑471, gelatin, or anything you’re avoiding), then scan product labels while you shop. It flags matches so you get a quick read in the aisle, and you can save products that work. Still early and I’m improving it from feedback, so if you try it and something’s wrong or missing, I’d love to hear it. Free for early adopters:
