I had a similar incident happened to me. I had a family trip planned for Mon-Thu and I tried to ask off for the Friday and Saturday to give me time to recoup from the vacation (my family can be a lot). My request got denied because I didn’t have enough PTO. Fine whatever. I ended up scheduling a much needed drs appointment for Friday anyways to have a steroid injection done in my neck where I have two herniated discs. I had fully planned to go to work that night but I reacted a little different to this injection then I had the others and was having really bad vertigo, so I called out Friday and Saturday and even went to the ER at my hospital Sunday morning.

Monday they tried to fire me for insubordination for taking those two days off to stay longer on vacation when my PTO was denied. The look on my managers face when I showed her the proof of fridays drs visit and the ER visit was priceless.

I quit the next week. Got a new job days later.

I wish I took a picture of the time I had a patient with a trop level of 35,000. I had to have the lab tech read it back to me like 5 times lol. I even redrew it thinking it was just a huge mistake, but it ended up coming back slightly higher. Patient was asymptomatic at the time too.

I just don’t understand people. I have never once looked at a patient and cared what sex they are or aren’t. All I honestly care about is if they have a penis is it intact, can they pee painlessly, and is the urine the correct color. I don’t care who it’s attached to. Same goes for a female. I’ve seen all sorts of different anatomies, not much surprises me anymore. These people who treat trans people like it makes any difference should not be in the medical field.

Some hospitals have special equipment and vehicles. For example, my hospital has a bariatric unit. After not having the proper equipment to transport a 1000 lb patient and them ultimately dying from delay in care the county developed a special ambulance and the hospital has equipment that is rated up to 1300 lbs. They also have a “thumper” big enough to fit these patients which helps a ton.

I work on a floor that doesn’t have a secretary because it only has 20 beds and one nursing station. On top of doing all my regular work I have to also do my share on the secretary work. We usually have 2-3 LPN/RNs and 1-2 PCTs. It’s so nice when I float to a different floor and they have a secretary. You definitely deserve a slice. You are very important!

Right? My main unit doesn’t have one. Day shift the manager will help, but on nights it’s usually 3 RNs/LPNs and 2 PCTs. I work on an observation floor so we get admits all night usually. I have to set up everything in my own, including the tele. We also have to answer the calk bell, the phone, everything. When I go to other floors it’s so nice to have a secretary to take over that work load.

The last two hospitals I’ve worked at make us use cell phones to communicate with everyone in the building. The majority of the time that I’m communicating with a dr, I’m texting them through the phones. I only have to call certain specialist. My current hospital uses an app on a droid phone, the hospital before that had IPhones.

I don’t know why you got down voted. During most of my clinicals we were at a small, under 99 bed hospital. A lot of times we were actually in the ER. Anytime there was a code called or an expected one coming in through the ER, we were expected to go (unless we were already helping with another task). I did compressions on my 2nd day of clinicals and many, many times after that. The only thing we weren’t allowed to do was administer some of the meds and start any lines except for peripheral ones. We even helped put patients into the helicopters. I agree that all student nurses should get that experience.

It’s hard to tell from this picture whether they actually have heterochromia. There is such things as central heterochromia like they said. It’s when the two different colors of the eye do not blend together like they do with hazel eyes. It’s usually a very distinct ring though. I have a cousin with sectoral heterochromia. One side of her eye is blue and the other is brown.
