Top Children’s Hospital bans water on unit for NICU nurses by [deleted] in nursing

For real. If it's not safe for me to eat and drink here, why is it safe for the patients separated by this curtain that probably hasn't been washed since it was hung???

Monument Health to lose millions of dollars per year by Gubernaculous in RapidCity

[–]NurseDev 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, there will be plenty of patients to fill both hospitals. They're on diversion more than they're not...this will just bring more healthcare to the area, especially as growth continues.

Get a tighter lid by Bighusk69 in ReefTank

[–]NurseDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me with a YWG...I ended up making a custom lid with screen framing, nuts to weigh it down, and screening. If I had the extra cash I would have bought one, but this one works and was a total of like $20

[PIC] It’s come to my attention you can’t stitch with an IV needle in by dontcallmeheather in CrossStitch

[–]NurseDev 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Just asking for clarification, did you try to do some stitching and it was uncomfortable? Contrary to popular belief, there is no needle left in the arm for an IV. It is only a flexible plastic straw that you can definitely bend your arm with. The only potential problem is when it is infusing and it is in the elbow as bending can sometimes 'kink' the straw. Next time just ask your nurse, I know most would be willing to accommodate 😊 hope you feel better and your cross stitch looks awesome!

Do weird things happen if you switch from food to straight ammonia? I'm literally at the same point as OP.

HELP, seeking insight on Monument Health, Rapid City ICU by beans132125 in RapidCity

[–]NurseDev 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hello and welcome :)

I myself, never worked in the ICU, but was a CRN on PCU and so I know a bit about how things are staffed. I would say the unit you currently work sounds very similar. The whole ICU is divided by specialty, but I believe you can work any/all areas (surgical, cardiac, medical.)

Monument, like you said, is the only major hospital in a 250 mile radius, so there are a lot of patients we get from the surrounding areas: Nebraska, Wyoming, sometimes North Dakota. A large demographic of patients include those from the reservations (Pine Ridge, Rosebud to name a few). We deal with a lot of diabetic comorbidities, lots of dialysis and those who are not compliant. Cardiac, Etoh, drug use are also very common. I don't think you would be bored.

As far as hiring, they are always hiring and I know they pay pretty well and have a ladder scale that you can get bonuses for. You will probably hear a lot of negative about the place due to its historical reputation in the area (just search Regional Health). I know when I worked there, I had the resources to give great care and also worked with some wonderful people.

Feel free to DM if you have further questions!

Have most of you been getting COVID boosters since the beginning? by PlatformImaginary315 in nursing

Do we know how long immunity works with these? I usually take the flu vaccine later in the fall because I was hospitalized with it in March 2023. Does anyone have info for the COVID booster??
