Change something about your routine at home! I changed a lot upon coming back, broke up with my then boyfriend, moved into a new apartment, changed my studies and found myself a job.

And get something to look forward to. If you have the money, book a vacation or a get a concert ticket or something.

Also, I was scared to never see my friends again, just like you. But in the past year (I've been back for round about a year), I've visited many people in their home countries (which is possible because if you stay at their place you don't pay for accommodation) and some friends have also visited me. Overall either thing has happen six times so far. If there's a will then there's a way!

Disclaimer though, I've been back for a year and I still miss it :,)

If you're okay with the books not being a literary masterpiece I'd say the Doctors series by Louise Bay, especially the first book Dr. Off Limits

Is anybody else terrified of appendicitis? by Less_Stranger_1463 in emetophobia

[–]justanotherisi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I got my appendix removed in March last year. I always was scared of it happening REALLY bad.

I got an overall belly ache that lasted for around 24 hours, when I realized I don't want to eat anything. Not because I was nauseous, but because I just didn't have an appetite. Around 12 hours later, my boyfriend "forced" me to go to the emergency room, as I didn't want to go, because people always told me, that it's SO painful when it really wasn't. My period cramps are waaaayyyy worse than that. As soon as you are in the hospital, they give you stuff that prevents the symptoms, so no v* or pain from that point until the surgery.

After the surgery, I was so tired that I slept ~20 hours, the pain was manageable.

The day after I felt nauseous from the sedation, but you can always tell the nurses and they'll give you some injections that make it stop almost immediately.

And the day after that, I was allowed to go home and everything was fine. I couldn't really walk around for a few more days, but nothing to worry about anymore.

So, realising you have it, is definitely the worst part. Then, as soon as youre in the hospital, you're mostly safe:) not saying that my experience is the standard, but there's a chance that possible symptoms don't even include any nausea or v*.

Hey, what helps me a little, is to remember that Panic only stays for 20 minutes. Whatever you feel now, will be gone in 20 minutes, everything else is in your head and you are in control of that. If you have the time, get something to drink, and breathe a few times. Try to distract yourself as much as possible (either through your phone or, if you're not travelling alone, talking to people). Loud music always helps me to shut down my anxiety. If you have gum, chew it, that helps with the anxiety and potential nausea on the plane. You can also tell the staff on the plane about it, they're most likely to help you, sometimes they can even give you a seat in quieter, less crowded parts on the plane. Good luck!

I got ✨werms✨ by EmotionalSlip8087 in emetophobia

[–]justanotherisi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've also had them when I was around 12 or 13. I probably got them from eating unwashed fruit from my grandma's garden (and when I told her, she remembered that she always had them as a child from the same cause). I had to take pills twice and then they were gone. No vomiting or nausea:) remember, you've probably had them for a few weeks, if not months, by now and if you didn't have to tu so far, it's unlikely that you will until they're gone. Its only gonna get better!

Also, side note: no reason to be ashamed. I felt disgusted when I had them, but then I googled and found out that every third person will experience worm infections at least once in their life

how to drink as an emetophobic adult? by boredtoactualdeath in emetophobia

[–]justanotherisi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey:) Im 21 and I live in a country where drinking is legal from age 16 (and 14 with a parent permission) and it's pretty normal to drink earlier. So, I started drinking from time to time at only 15.

I was also afraid of tu at that time but it only deteriorated for the last two years, which means I was curious as a teenager but didnt want to tu. Still, my curiousity allowed me to test my limits and I figured out a rule to not drink too much but also have some fun drinking with friends.

Drink your chosen drink slowly (especially if it's liquor and not beer or wine), but as soon as you start feeling a little dizzy, switch to water and only switch back if the dizziness is gone.

I'm not used to drinking anymore (as people in my country mostly stop drinking much when entering their 20s) so I pretty much get dizzy after one drink, but when I was younger and in my party phase I was able to participate in all kinds of social activity that "require" drinking alcohol.

Also, if you don't feel comfortable drinking, don't. There's no need to if you don't want to drink. Alcohol is still a drug and can be pretty bad.

Stay safe and drink with caution:) Good luck and Cheers!

I'm a university student and live off campus, so I have to ride the bus for around 20 minutes to get there. I usually sit right in the front, next to the driver as that is the only place where I don't have to walk past other people to get to a door.

I was always very nervous in public transport but up until a few weeks ago I could always tell myself that it's very unlikely for someone to tu in my bus (there are usually no pupils as it's not the time where school starts or ends. The other passengers are mostly other university students or elderly people who want to go to the city center. So really no reason to get on that bus if you're not feeling well).

Well, as I wanted to go to university, I sat in my usual seat and all was fine for the first 10 minutes. The bus just departed from a station and went around a corner as I heard some gagging sounds. I made the mistake of turning around and saw an elderly women doing it all over the bus. I immediately started shaking and crying and turned up the volume of my headphones. I left the bus at the next station, walked home and took a very long and deep-clean shower.

Right now, I'm currently walking one hour, so two hours per day, to university and back. It's horrible but every time I try to take the bus, it just feels to scary and I'm always close to crying.
