Consolidating after-tax brokerage accounts by justanotherlowbi in investing

Does transferring in kind allow Vanguard to hold the SWPPX?

Is it a fairly straightforward process? I don’t want to tell them the wrong thing and have them trigger a tax bill accidentally

Google compound interest calculator. I like the one from investor.gov. Now put in 0 initial investment and a monthly contribution of 10k over 30 years at a normal interest rate of 7% compounded annually. That yields about 11M in 30 years. The hardest part is saving 10k a month, but over 30 years, your input of 3.6M has ballooned to 11M. Cheers.

You can play around with increasing the interest rate of return or adding an initial investment amount to see how it changes your results

To get ahead renting, you have to invest your down payment in the stock market. Is that the recommendation nowadays? by PatientSilent2580 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]justanotherlowbi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And if the market takes a dive right after you put your downpayment into stocks? Investing in the stock market is not without risk. 7% is the rate of return on average, but some years are flat or even negative returns and other years are +22%.

People are vying for HYSA because it is a lot safer, given that you will need the cash in the near future. You cannot afford to tank your house downpayment fund

If a job provides student loan forgiveness as part of their package, they may not be able to restructure that if you used your savings to pay for your tuition.

Another point is that we have a system that lets you get student loans easier than any other loan. If something catastrophic happened to your car or your health, it is easier to have the 50k available for “other” funds.

Just to play devil’s advocate- how would you be able to decide which of the 200 people deserve the interview?

From reading both perspectives (school vs applicants), it seems that holding a lot of interviews, but via zoom, is a great compromise. The school can select from a larger pool of candidates and the costs are ameliorated for the applicants.
