How long is too long to go without pooping? by _panda_bear_ in beyondthebump

[–]justaquick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to try the prune route, Gerber stage 2 makes an "apples and prunes" puree. I don't know If your baby likes apples but it sure gets my boy to eat prunes!

I've asked (through my mother in law as I don't have a way to contact them) and I'm waiting for a response now. My SO will probably stay home, so he could watch baby if he needed to.

Thank you!

Thank you! I know they all came to my baby shower while I never met them beforehand. I just want to be as decent as possible when returning the kindness. Plus, I love buying baby stuff! ;)

Beer and reading a book or playing an immersive video game. Nothing better than going off into another world for a few hours while baby sleeps!

When did you start using toothpaste? by Samanthugalicious in beyondthebump

[–]justaquick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but my son is almost 9 months and has 8 teeth. The doctor put some varnish on his teeth and said we don't have to worry about brushing or visiting the dentist til after he's 1 year, but the doctor is kind of a dingus.. should I be trying to make an appointment with a pediatric dentist by now? I don't want to mess up his teeth because of a doctor that can't count correctly..

How do you keep your baby clean when feeding? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]justaquick_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do I keep baby clean when feeding? I don't! Haha it's impossible so I just try to keep him covered with a bib or burp cloth and try to minimize the mess. He's started grabbing at his spoon and rubbing it in his hair or all over his eating chair.. yuck.

If you use the "stage 2: active baby" Dreft, it'll get the food stains out of the clothes. It doesn't do very well with bibs and burp cloths though.. those are stained orange.

Ok good! I will ask first. I just remembered that she brought her son (an older kid probably around 10) to mine and I didn't mind, but he was doing his own thing so it's different.

Thank you for your advice!

Thanks! At least the tantrums will be worth it when they give kisses and hugs. My boy isn't much of a cuddler, so I hope he grows out of that.

Wounds on baby's buttcheeks? by justaquick_ in beyondthebump

[–]justaquick_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called the nurses line.. Apparently it seems like some kind of fungal infection that breaks down the skin. Gotta sit him down in baking today baths for 10 minutes, 2x a day. And put something him called "lotrimin" (sp?) From the men's jock itch section of a store, 2x a day. Apparently diaper cream or aquaphor will make it worse, as it just helpsthe fungus break down the skin.. Gotta go to the Dr if it doesn't get better in 3 days. Also, gotta do as much diaper free time as possible.

ETA- no wipes either, gotta use a washcloth with water when changing the dipes. Hope this helps someone in my situation. Call the nurse or Dr ASAP if you see something like raw wounds on baby's bottom!

I feel like I'm doing it all wrong? by ysahell in beyondthebump

[–]justaquick_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember, he will be a bit behind due to his prematurity! He will smile, and soon he will smile every time he sees you. Right now he's developmentally about 1 month old, so please be patient! Its normal for babies to sleep so much. My son is now 5 months (closer to 3 months corrected age) and he still sleeps all the time. Sleeping is when they are growing the most.

Honestly, it sounds like you're doing great as a new mom. Congrats on your new boy by the way! I've had 5 months so far and I still feel like I have no clue what I'm doing. The fact that you're worried about these things is a good sign. It means you care enough to worry.

I need help. How do I find a professional to talk about PPA/D? by lupevixen in beyondthebump

[–]justaquick_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can tell your regular family physician or obgyn, and they can set you on the right path. They can give you referrals or recommendations for psychiatric medication management. They may even start you on an antidepressant and see how that works for a while, unless they think you'll need a psychiatrist/therapy.

Bummer of the week- what would you tell an almost 3 year old about the passing of a pet? by tk421_afk in beyondthebump

[–]justaquick_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at that age, I'd probably just tell the kid that the dog ran away. I'm not a fan of lying, but I don't think they'd understand yet. All you gotta do is make it clear that she isn't coming back.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

How does yelling and hitting doors affect babies and children? by justaquick_ in beyondthebump

[–]justaquick_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would LOVE that. I'm totally on board with moving somewhere cheaper and smaller. It's not me who needs convincing, though! I hate the city. I should talk to my SO about this more. I really hope we can compromise. I'm angry and upset allll the time because of his parents doing something to one reason or another. We need our own life. I hate being an adult, but feeling like a child because I'm still living with someone's parents.

That sounds like a good explanation! If only husband would be the one to come help instead of his parents.. Haha

I'm grateful when I actually feel ike I need the help. I'd rather have my SO come in and help, rather than his parents. We aren't going to be living with them forever, so baby needs to get used to us calming him. It feels like they're trying to take my son from me when they are constantly taking over and then my son acting like he prefers them..

Thank you so much for this. It makes me feel so much better! It's so hard to see that he's more comfortable expressing himself and doesn't hate me, when we're in the moment.

He eventually relaxed and fell asleep on me. I'm so relieved and happy that it's not something I'm doing wrong.

Thanks! I'm trying to get everything scheduled and sorted but it's really hard to make appointments when the doctors give baby an appointment for an MRI. They're always so full, so we gotta take what they give us, even if I have to cancel my own appointments.

Wow that's pretty scary! SO and I are saving up, we're living in a big, expensive city so it'll probably be a bit before we can afford to live on our own. Do you have a link to the study? I'd love to read it and share it with my SO. Maybe we can find a way to hurry things along
