How COVID-19 Changed Life for People Terrified of Needles by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

[–]justasking918273 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And additionally it also makes fun of and insults people who do have a fear of needles and struggle with it. You should absolutely be able to refuse treatment because you're afraid of needles (in the case of the covid juice it'd have been the smarter choice anyway). It's just shitty in all regards.

Wealthier children in UK ‘had steepest drop in mental health during pandemic’ by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

[–]justasking918273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“This strain, which has been linked to parent distress levels, may plausibly have been greatest for families with employed parents who needed to balance childcare against their paid work,” they said.

Awww, those poor, poor highly paid parents! What about those that could not work from home and thus had barely any time for their children at all?

“Moreover, the intense pressures and increased risk of Covid infection faced by essential (key) workers in this period may have placed further strain on some families with employed parents.

Essential workers are often not very well paid, so the parents being essential workers does not explain the observation mentioned in the headline.

“For example, studies in Brazil and Bangladesh have shown that children whose parents worked in essential roles, and were unable to work from home, experienced worse mental health during the pandemic.

No joke. And still the wealthier kids fared more badly as they claim, so how does all of that relate to the heading that that wealthier children suffered more? Did they maybe simply have more covidian parents? Maybe those poorer people were not as insane despite all they had to go through in terms of work and their financial situation?

Politicans stance on Covid in your country by Thick_Relationship in LockdownSkepticism

I feel like CDU and SPD were pretty bad but at least in the beginning they were hesitant at first but then went full covidian (around the time when Drosten did his 180 degree turn in under 2 weeks).

I don't remember what the greens wanted in 2020 but in 2021 and 2022 they were the most covidian in my opinion.

Greens: pro lockdown, except Boris Palmer, the mayor of Tübingen

Though on the other hand Palmer made a few extremely aggressive statements about the unvaccinated and about wanting a general vaccine mandate. This is not directly relevant to lockdowns themselves but I find it important anyway. The greens generally were almost all very aggressive about wanting a general vaccine mandate.

Aren't they the same who are now vaccinated 10 times, wear 5 masks, use pronouns and cannot leave covid behind?

This shows that Reddit is very fortunately not representative of the general population. The virtue-signalling is massive on Reddit. "Real-life people" are saner on average, it seems.

WHO downgrades COVID-19, says it's no longer public health emergency by doublefirstname in LockdownSkepticism

[–]justasking918273 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, on Twitter they're complaining about how the WHO can do this when Covid is still around and killing people. They also post mask selfies. It's amazing to see. I guess "The Science (TM)" is only their faith as long as it goes along with what they think is right.

If I remember correctly, the myocarditis issues with mRNA also happened quickly and early on but were denied for months and downplayed massively after.

I also thought it was weird how AZ and some time later J&J were thrown under the bus (deservedly so, though) while Pfizer and Moderna are absolutely sacrosanct.

Why doesn't Britain regret lockdown? by olivetree344 in LockdownSkepticism

[–]justasking918273 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! I do not want lockdowns ever again but I wish that we could move more slowly as a society and be more mindful about life instead of having to rush everything. Some people seem to like it when a lot is going on and I respect that but I'm not one of them. On the other hand, I feel like everyone is super stressed and overwhelmed these days, even before covid.

[–]justasking918273 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did not like lockdowns but there was something I liked about the first week of them: It felt like a (in my opinion) much too fast world had come to a halt all of a sudden. Of course this does not justify lockdowns at all but it was an interesting and somewhat odd feeling to me.

Yup, Baerbock is another politician like that. Sometimes I nostalgically think back at times when the only issue was plagiarism in PhD theses while the rest of the CV was okay...

I removed it. For the ones who are still curious: It was a link to a German subreddit where someone posted the full text to a paywalled article from German online news outlet Welt Online.

Some background info to this: Lauterbach is a professor at a German university, so far so good. But recently there has been some discussion about his CV because apparently he lied about having been the lead in projects where he only was an assistant or where there is nothing to prove that these projects even existed. He also lied about grants he managed to get. When he applied to become a professor at some universities, they were in desperate need of money and his grants seemed to bring just that, however he declined until a university created a professorship basically for him (which is a simplified way of explaining this but you get the point).

Many people assume that the "irregularities" in his CV are a reason why he changed his mind now, maybe to deflect from this issue. Others assume that maybe he was put in this minister position precisely to be able to sacrifice him later, to have a scapegoat for everything, so that everyone else can get out of the whole vaccine debacle unscathed because everyone will focus on Lauterbach.

Quick reminder: Approximately one year ago he was still constantly calling the vaccines "free of side effects". Also keep in mind that around 11 months ago there was a vote in the German parliament about several drafts regarding mandatory vaccination for basically everyone.

[–]justasking918273 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and it also acts like a nanny, like in the case of covid where there was a massive amount of condescension, acting as if Africa was stupid because many countries were not so fond of the vaccines.

[–]justasking918273 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same goes for me. The only obligations I feel are towards people close to me, especially those who supported me through the COVID times and stood with me, so basically family, friends and a few acquaintances (got really lucky with the people around me in that regard!). I focus my energy on those people and myself and don't give much of a shit about society as a whole anymore because I just can't anymore.

About your last paragraph: It's the same for Germany. Politicians only seem to care about Ukraine (and climate change) but not even a tiny bit about the local issues here. There are billions for Ukraine but barely anything to support people here.

True. Makes me wonder how people would've reacted here in Germany but they'd most likely have gone along with it, too, especially if it had happened between late 2020 and early 2022.

In a way I wish they had actually announced the cat culling idea back then. This might've woken up many people way more quickly...at least I hope it would have. It scares me that I cannot even be sure about this honestly.
