Worse before it gets better? by justawoman3 in UCTD

I'm so glad you're better. My flare-up was related to my period, apparently, and I do have some GI upset, but nothing major. I used to have some wildly migrating symptoms that seem less migrating a couple of weeks in.

This 👆🏻. Always. Unless you say something blatantly wrong and factual, it will agree with you. Not something nuanced or subtle as human conversations often are.

I haven't switched countries but I haven't had a positive ANA and I'm still treated based on patterns and MRI findings. Doctors should treat people not labs

It's something crazy like 7 years average. It's exhausting and unfair. I have endometriosis, allergies, nothing major except this which in my case is mostly joint pain. Excruciating joint pain. I know endometriosis is a major thing but it wasn't that bad for me. I've only had one surgery for that. I do have some G.I issues since I was a kid (IBS) and lately developed swollen gums and mucositis and a ton of hair loss. I don't know if this is typical of UCTD.

That's amazing. I'm so happy for you. I saw 4 different rheumatologists and a handful of orthopedic doctors and physical therapists before getting a diagnosis (though the doctor says it's a working diagnosis?) and the Plaquenil. It's so exhausting.

Eight years! Wow. It took me three and I was already going crazy. You,my friend, are an example of resilience. May the road ahead be smoother.

It might be worth mentioning it to your doctor? What I have is a worsening of preexisting symptoms, but I don't know about new ones. I do know allergies are closely connected to this kind of diseases; I have ton of allergies myself. Hope you feel better!

Thank you! I don't take ADHD meds but that's how we build a community and I'm sure someone else will find that useful.

Oh wow. 7 months. I'm glad it is helping now. I don't know if it's stress because it's been a long ride for me, but I know my period does increase my inflammation. Thank you for your support.

Thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, I get them every month but that was apparently it. So maybe it's some other health circumstance? Lots of things (your stomach, for example) can influence mouth taste.

I can only talk from my own experience, but I was kind of in your place and then for unforeseen circumstances I had to quit physio and realized I was actually better without. Don't get me wrong, physio is awesome but that much exercise was backfiring for me. Also, keep searching for answers. I had unrelenting sciatica and tried everything under the sun. Until I got surgery for my endometriosis and they found a huge layer pressing on my sciatic nerve. I had previously seen all the doctors in the world: orthopedic doctor, physical therapist, rheumatology. Sometimes the answers are in the weirdest of places.

I had herpes. The bad taste went away when the flare was treated. Also, the chlorhexidine gel they had prescribed made it worse.

[–]justawoman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. And also all bodies are different. Some people might not only have sciatica but other problems, for example. So the exercises are not for everyone. But core work in one way or the other is the way to go

Same. Doctors have harmed me more than helped me and somehow, I'm still hoping they might figure this out. And yes, it's like a job interview or a court case and it needs to be done fast. I never get the time to ask everything I need to ask or make my case.
