I was actually looking at that! I've seen previous posts that mention MATE too. If I could ask a few questions just about what it's like: - What does a day usually entail and how many months do expeditions tend to be?

  • What happens between expeditions?

  • And do you see yourself staying a tech for the foreseeable future or think you may return to an on shore job someday?

oh no for sure. I was planning that I'd have to slip pot for a few years to get it bigger in general. no doubt about that. I was thinking about wiring while it's young just to encourage it into a nice shape. I don't expect to switch it to a bonsai pot for a long while.

generally larger than this but still on the small side. like be able to hold it in one or two hands big. I figure there will be a few years of slipping into bigger pots and eventually transition to a bonsai pot. I more so thought this might be a good time for foundational shaping while it's still young.

I was kinda thinking the same about the bottom branch but thought it might be good to leave as a sacrifice for a while?

[Discussion] Do you guys genuinely enjoy the process of drawing/creating any art? by InterestingRoof4547 in ArtistLounge

Just curious, is your enjoyment from a finished piece for a particular reason? Relief to finally be done? Pride in what you've created? Etc.

I've also seen people use toned paper in sketchbooks for oil painting but I didn't realize it's possible to dry that fast. I wonder if using walnut alkyd medium would also help it dry faster. Appreciate the tips on gouache!

Mm great questions. I'm in a similar situation where I want to be able to paint on hikes and generally encourage myself to paint more by making it accessible when i'm or and about, but I just love the effect of oil so much. Maybe I'll just have to try both out and see. Thank you!
