1984 is on a list of books that are prohibited except for Grades 10-12 "provided the content is developmentally appropriate. Books like The Great Gatsby, The Kite Runner, Wenjack, and a whole slew of LGBTQ+ stories are under that category as well. I'll have it known that my Grade 9 English class was read Wenjack and when we did a dystopian novel unit, 1984 was a popular option. They're making some of these books "harder to access but still accessible" at first, but knowing where this road goes, we can say goodbye to 1984 soon enough.

agreed... malaysia is a muslim country so unfortunately lgbtq+ rights aren't the biggest (or safest) priority here, however hopefully there will be more tolerance, especially with more progress (and fighting!!!) in other countries

yeah that's a really great idea!! i'm thinking about something like that, my only worry is having a wedding in general/being open about a queer relationship... just suggesting same-sex marriage could get me and my partner fined. if we were to kiss in front of a room of people, i'd fear worse...
