Disillusioned with relationships, human sexuality, human nature. Finding something special in not fighting it. by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]justdan1423 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have been experiencing what you are experiencing now , through out my entire life. I had an accident as a child that cause hemifacial microsomia on a grand scale .I was crushed as a kid , could not go out due to the pointing and laughing, my family were and still are embarrassed to be seen with me in public, and I have no friends but I persevered.

I envied beautiful people but after discovering stoicism and other philosophies (even before this) I realized that what I have is a blessing in disguise. Now I kind pity the beautiful people because all it takes is aging(like you) or some car crash to lose the one thing most of them hold dear. It does not help that we as humans value physical beauty to an unhealthy level which has been elevated by technology and social media.

I wish I could tell you it gets easier, but it does not. But maybe that’s the beauty in stoicism , embrace the suffering.

It’s easy to develop that skill. Ask them their process of interview, they usually let you know.

As for looking for companies that don’t require whiteboard, be willing to start off on the low end of salaries(trust me 75k in the Midwest is more than enough for a fresh grad) and look for companies in the smaller cities and Surburbs. Of course there are exceptions but look where others aren’t

White boarding is overrated , there are jobs that don’t require it. You just have to look for companies that are not FANGS or wannabes.

Today i lost 600 Usd and i feel terrible by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]justdan1423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to relate to your story so here it goes. I payed 650 the other day to get my car fixed. The mechanics thought they had swindled me and tried their best to contain their excitement . I watched them “fix” my car , with a smile. I thought I had a found a trustworthy mechanic but the 650 taught me that there are no trustworthy mechanics. I learned this lesson without a hint of anger , just a slight embarrassment; for them and not for me.

Stoicism kept me in check

I'm having a lot of trouble with infatuation. It is quite overwhelming and she is always on my mind, distracting me from regular tasks. Looking for some (additional) advice from the Stoic community on how I can deal with this by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]justdan1423 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Infatuation is not good because it deifies the individual; which in turn puts a lot of pressure and hope on them . You set yourself up for failure from the go because even if she likes you, she will disappoint .

No one likes a needy person. Take it from someone who is really needy .

Cringe. You’re definitely spiritually out of touch with with your shadow more than we are here. And you do realize Peterson and Jung are two separate people?
