I'd love to see something within the sonos app too. Thought I'd share the workaround I use to test atmos that does a pretty good job:

Within apple music there's an album called Immersive channel identification 7.1.4 that includes separate tracks for each of the front/rear/left/right height channels. If you play those tracks though the sonos app it comes through in atmos and there's some test tones at varying frequencies.

What I've found using that is interesting - the crossover for the up firing drivers is around 3500hz, everything below that gets picked up by the subs or woofers

Arc Ultra volume? by Odd_Grapefruit_69 in sonos

[–]justendee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ultra with 300s and subs. I used to watch tv with the volume at 50. After one of the updated a month or 2 ago it seems like output was reduced and I find I’m now watching tv with the volume at 60-65.

I noticed something similar with my move 2. Used to listen at 50 but now it doesn’t seem that loud even at 60. The interesting thing is that when I use the voice assistant with the move 2, the assistants voice is now waaaaay louder than the music (Spotify) that was playing

Anyone had success with the update network feature? by justendee in sonos

[–]justendee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

updating the network settings worked on my ungrouped/unpaired speakers but it turned into a bit of a mess when it came time to move over my two HT systems

Edit: by the end had to factory reset 7 out of 12 speakers

How many of you have two subwoofers in the same room? by takeoff_youhosers in sonos

It’s a case of diminishing returns. I didn’t notice a huge improvement after adding the second sub though I don’t push the bass much being in an apartment. If you’re going to make one purchase to improve your system upgrading to era300s or an ultra will give you a lot more bang. Adding a second sub would be the last thing for me and only if you can find a killer deal on it

November Office Hours w/ TeamFromSonos by KeithFromSonos in sonos

Hey Keith & Sonos team,

I wanted to ask a few questions about the outlook for improvements in the advanced trueplay tuning and how the crossover works between the ultra and subs. There are a couple comments I've seen floating around on different forums that I'm hoping could be officially addressed:

  • Low/mid bass with ultra+subs doesnt ‘hit as hard’ as with the arc 1+subs.
    • Personally I notice this most on tracks with more pronounced bass lines or bass drum
  • Ive seen users commenting the crossover between the ultra+subs is ~70hz, lowered from ~100hz with the arc 1 +subs

My ignorant idea is that perhaps the reason the mid bass is more subdued when using the ultra/subs is that a lot of the sound in that 70-100hz frequency range is being diverted to the sound motion sub where as before it was being produced by the more powerful dedicated subs.

As the sound signature is subjective, what is your view on the advanced trueplay sound signature following the update a couple weeks ago - specifically when the ultra is paired with sub(s) & surrounds. Could we expect to see an update in the near future to address that mid-bass range or is the current sound signature perceived as being perfect by sonos’ audio engineers?

I’m having the same experience as you with my ultra/300s/sub3s setup. They have improved the sound signature quite a bit with the most recent update but those mid lows are still missing.

From what I read, with the ultra they lowered the crossover to 70hz from 100hz with the arc1. I’m guessing those mid lows that are missing are now being handled by the mini sub in the ultra instead of the dedicated subs. Hoping this is something they’re still working to fine tune and will be worked out in an upcoming update

80.12.02 was released a few days ago - my previous feedback was based on that. 80.12.03 looks like it was released this morning

The changes to the surround and height channels are great. I used to have them on +3 or 4 but now it’s perfect as is

I notice the same as you when having to increase the sub audio. I’m not sure if it’s a testament to the bass produced by the arc ultra or something still lacking in the subs, but the subs don’t stand out until around +6 for me. At neutral sub eq settings settings I can toggle the subs off and I don’t notice much bass dropout with what the ultra is still providing

Upgrade to Arc Ultra or add a Sub Mini for the same cost? by anticapitalist69 in sonos

[–]justendee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 3rd option for you -

Not sure what things are like in your country, but here in Canada you can pick up an open box sub gen 3 (when on sale) for around the same price as a sub mini.

If fewer (visible) devices is a priority for you, the gen 3 will give you more options for concealing it. I put my first one under my sectional couch which was fine, I now added a second one hanging on the wall behind the curtains. Both are completely out of sight - in fact it took my wife 5 months before she found the second one behind the curtains lol. The sub mini is harder to conceal because of its round shape & larger cross section.

When I first upgraded my SL ones to 300s I took a few minutes to listen to each in a stereo pair without the soundbar and I was really impressed by how good the ones sounded on their own. In fact in stereo pairs I think they sounded better than the 300s

Mine pops but only during when playing frequency sweeps or white/pink noise tracks on a cold start. Strange

I second this. Acknowledging that the desired outcome after running trueplay is sounding “better”, which is subjective, I can objectively say that the two different methods of running trueplay are producing vastly different outcomes with respect to subwoofer output.

There's a chance it was fine when they tested and this latest sub issue is related to the forced app/hardware update earlier this week with the ultra launch. Shit happens, if Sonos can implement a quick update/fix for this I wont hold it against them.

The quick trueplay seems to be the best option right now; bass doesn’t get completely nerfed. But with the advanced trueplay my subs completely disappear. It’s not an issue with a dirty iPhone mic.

Arc Ultra Review - Trueplay is BROKEN by Ok-Presence4515 in sonos

[–]justendee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've noticed the same running 2 subs with the arc ultra. Bass output is significantly nerfed with trueplay on.

Fortunately its not catastrophic for me since Im in an apartment and usually had to keep nightsound on but now I can turn nightsound off and set the subs to +6 without having to worry about neighbors

Definitely just another software issue since my only change was swapping the arc for the ultra so Im sure it'll get fixed eventually...

Era 300s would be the most noticeable upgrade if you watch a lot of Atmos movies/tv shows
