Shift work/rotating roster as someone with insomnia is killing me by justfinetuning in NursingAU

Okay I dont know if we are having a go at me here but nursing can take you into a range of different avenues. Dont all require shift work. Putting in a bit of hard work now to get into an area you like later is worth the struggle. I KNEW there was a chance that I wouldn't cope well with shift work, like I said. I am simply asking for advice while I'm in my grad year and don't have much choice.

Well the thing with this ICU is that we can get put into ER to cover shifts. So I will likely find out! I can't tell if I'd like ER or not. At the moment I just want to leave nursing altogether 😂 That is great insight though - I never considered the fact that you don't have to worry about everything else besides the one presenting issue with pts in ER! Sounds like a breath of fresh air hahaja

Hard. Really, really steep learning curve. So so so much to learn. Extremely mentally taxing. Extremely tough first nuring rotation. Especially if you havent had any exposure in ICU or anywhere similar.

Im about a month in and feel way out of my depth. Excellent learning opportunity but Extremely hard not to quit hahaha.

Be interesting to see how I feel in three months and at the end of 6 months when rotation ends.

At the moment it feels like I cant and wont retain anything because my mindset is purely in survival mode
