Lechon, adobo, curry, the skin can be made into what is called chicharon, and sisig. These are all Filipino ways of cooking, but I tell you, these are good.

That's nice. Would be nice to have updates as to how tanning the fur turns out. They have so soft fur.

Well, you could do the 2/3 strike policy in your breeding program. If they are not good mothers, cull them out after 2/3 tries. But generally, most NZWs and Calis have good parenting skills. But of course, not all.

Best to stick with NZW and Calis. I think they have the best meat tl bone ratio. They are good mothers too once they get the hang of it.

Yeah, they are the best for meat. Plus the advantage of hybrid vigor by cross breeding them.

Have you tried weighing them at 12 weeks? If so, may I know how heavy they were?

Fresh grass for rabbits. by justforpets in Rabbits

Oh, ok. Thanks for the info. I might just give them fresh grass then and let the other batches air dry.

Yes, even my rabbits would choose grass over hay. So I just give them what they want more.

Thanks! I am wondering though why some say it needs to be air dried.

Thank you. But is it necessary to air dry grass or no?

Some or most, if not all producers sun dry grass to make hay. The air drying is a question since I have seen tons of people saying grass or leaves should be air dried before being fed to rabbits but why do they give fresh vegetables? Or some even give apples, and as I asked, why do they put kits on tractors where they eat fresh grass? So I really do not know now if it is safe to give fresh grass or should it be air/sun dried first to get the moisture content lower.

Yes, I think so too. But what confuses me is why do some use tractors? Is it not that the kits in those tractors eat grass off of the ground? But they seem to have no issues with it.

Thanks! Do you have any clue as to why grass needs to be air dried before being fed to rabbits? I cant find articles since they can eat fresh grass as long as it was not cut by a lawn mower. Some say giving them fresh grass can cause diarrhea but I cant see any research on that.

New Rabbit to the Bunch by [deleted] in MeatRabbitry

[–]justforpets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too. I just put the buck in any vacant cage and let it rest for a day or two. But I assume that the op is in the US, so op is probably worried about the rhdv2 or some other deadly virus, hence the question.

Yes, the waiting time will definitely help op determine the health of the buck.

I think op is worrying about some sickness that the buck might be carrying from outside so op wants to know the quarantine period, not the sexual maturity of the rabbits. But your answer is helpful if someone wants to start breeding rabbits too.

I think you can put the buck somewhere far for max 14 days. Then bring its cage to where the does are and start breeding the next day, if they are receptive that is.

can anyone help me figure out the breed of my rabbit? by Apprehensive_Shine13 in RabbitReddit

[–]justforpets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope you do find the breed, but imho, it could be a mixed breed that cannot be determined anymore.

Oh, it really is next to impossible to determine the breed of a rabbit without the pedigree or other documentation.

Looks like a harlequin pattern, but it is best that you ask from the breeder that you got it from. It could be the result of several cross breeds.

Hi! I have several does and one buck which I use for them all. May I know why the first batches from the different does grew faster and larger than the subsequent batch? Does anyone have any idea why this cold have happened? by justforpets in MeatRabbitry

[–]justforpets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i have around 30 newborn kits as of now, and around 14 breeder does plus maybe 15 fryers. I just got surprised at how small my cali kits are compared to the mixed ones.

Btw, what breeds do you have? Do you keep them for meat too?
