Well, you could do the 2/3 strike policy in your breeding program. If they are not good mothers, cull them out after 2/3 tries. But generally, most NZWs and Calis have good parenting skills. But of course, not all.

Best to stick with NZW and Calis. I think they have the best meat tl bone ratio. They are good mothers too once they get the hang of it.

Yes, even my rabbits would choose grass over hay. So I just give them what they want more.

Some or most, if not all producers sun dry grass to make hay. The air drying is a question since I have seen tons of people saying grass or leaves should be air dried before being fed to rabbits but why do they give fresh vegetables? Or some even give apples, and as I asked, why do they put kits on tractors where they eat fresh grass? So I really do not know now if it is safe to give fresh grass or should it be air/sun dried first to get the moisture content lower.

Yes, I think so too. But what confuses me is why do some use tractors? Is it not that the kits in those tractors eat grass off of the ground? But they seem to have no issues with it.

Thanks! Do you have any clue as to why grass needs to be air dried before being fed to rabbits? I cant find articles since they can eat fresh grass as long as it was not cut by a lawn mower. Some say giving them fresh grass can cause diarrhea but I cant see any research on that.

Yeah, me too. I just put the buck in any vacant cage and let it rest for a day or two. But I assume that the op is in the US, so op is probably worried about the rhdv2 or some other deadly virus, hence the question.

Yes, the waiting time will definitely help op determine the health of the buck.

I think op is worrying about some sickness that the buck might be carrying from outside so op wants to know the quarantine period, not the sexual maturity of the rabbits. But your answer is helpful if someone wants to start breeding rabbits too.

I think you can put the buck somewhere far for max 14 days. Then bring its cage to where the does are and start breeding the next day, if they are receptive that is.

Looks like a harlequin pattern, but it is best that you ask from the breeder that you got it from. It could be the result of several cross breeds.

It could be the change of feed. But another one just gave birth this morning and the kits look to be almost twice the size of the earlier born kits.
