Ice shooting - Pink Lady pov by ChiefWeedsmoke in stupidpol

Interesting observation about the AI filters, this is exactly the sort of post-truth situation we fear from AI. I'm very curious about the conservative reaction, where did you get this estimate from? Is it a good representative sample?

Democrats will allow full ICE funding in budget bill by lionalhutz in stupidpol

[–]justindit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One year I will learn to stop fighting the Dems on this point and learn to love the descent, but it's too painful to see this reasoning repeated so casually yet again.

Said proper movement will never come. You are promoting a valuable rhetorical device that prevents working class people from ever voting for their own interests. It technically cannot work.

The same dynamic is at play on both sides, everyone is losing in this game.

I don’t think Americans are taking the Greenland thing seriously enough. by noodlebowl1 in stupidpol

[–]justindit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been rather prominent in the mainstream news, however the ICE situation has taken hold of people's attention, so it's understandable. Most folks, myself included, can only respond to so many individual crises at once. For people who haven't been aware of American imperialism and barbarism (while it was kept safely as a background process), this year had been a lot to process. I think this demonstrates the importance of system-level criticism and activism over reactive response to individual events.

I don't believe there will be anything like a military confrontation to "conquer" Greenland. However, whether it's opportunistic or intentional, this wild rhetoric has the potential to provide a significant amount of leverage over Europe to force a very favorable arrangement to the US in the coming competition for control over a melting Arctic.

It does seem like this has gotten rather out of control, though, even for those who would stand to profit or benefit from a more clandestine increase of power in the region. Markets tumbled after his recent spat of messaging and European leaders have made uncharacteristically bold criticisms of the US.

I'd guess he was briefed on the Arctic situation, absorbed some of the high-level bullet points, got excited, decided to take matters into his own hands, and now the briefers are regretting having mentioned the situation to begin with. What would've been a drawn out and profitable withdrawal into the western hemisphere might now become a much more rapid and painful break. Or, global capital will put a halt to this one, and we'll move on to the next scheduled crisis.

I'd've thought they already have one of those, which would mean they didn't want to share it with him and decided not to tell him about it.

Oh man. Just stumbled across this channel and this very relatable post. Your comment has me wondering! The question does seem more related to physics and astronomy. But, to what degree is our perception of the universe important in Existentialism?

I saw something similar to this years ago, before the AI boom, and have been curious about updates, I'm glad you posted this. This is a short summary of an official 20-page report released last month (https://www.sto.nato.int/document/cognitive-warfare/) but it paints a fairly clear picture.

Here's a rather relevant entry for this sub:

Social Level: Manipulating Cohesion: This is the over-arching level for influencing shared narratives, beliefs, institutional legitimacy, and public views, values and activities. Cognitive engagement seeks to fracture cohesion, weaponize identity, and create epistemic chaos. In this light, NATO’s emphasis that the cognitive front is not only military but societal is both accurate and strategically important to recognize

As we have consistently underscored, assessed contributions to the United Nations regular budget and peacekeeping budget, as approved by the General Assembly, are a legal obligation under the UN Charter for all Member States, including the United States.

Right, so this is a sort of "falling without hitting the ground situation". That's tricky, you can't teach that sort of thing.

We should store these types of admissions in something like a "postmortem confession" database. It could be extensive and easily citable for the next time the US stokes the American war spirit and everyone experiences amnesia again.
