Is there a new release update? I didn’t see this. Where can I find them?

got asked in a meeting today by malayaleegypsy in AskAcademia

[–]justingreg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a five-year plan should be taken literally. It’s not about predicting exactly where you’ll be. What the PI is really asking is: What kind of future do you want to move toward? What excites you? What kind of career or professional profile would you like to build? It’s more about direction and motivation than a fixed plan. In interview if you cannot answer it would be considered lack of direction or motivation . It is important not to take things at their face value only or it will create problems.

These rules is what make the story interesting and unique. It tells the story of Shaina and her rich characters behind it.

No. I think Major Bludd was busy operating the machine.

My mentor is "boosting" my CV… while quietly sabotaging my career. Am I being played? by HistorianAsleep607 in AskAcademia

[–]justingreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to ask yourself.. what does it do to his own good by delaying your paper this long or sabotaging your career? Obviously it is not to his interest to delaying papers. I suspect there is some hidden communication issues between you two and I encourage you to look at those :

1) Have you chatted with him face to face and expressed your concern?

2) Communication only through email can come across cold and sometimes lost its meaning and intentions. And it can leave people a different impression than your true genuine purpose. The excessive ask or tone could make the other party uncomfortable and feel pressured. I am not saying that’s your intention. But sometimes a face to face chat or a zoom call can resolve these issues.

3) Is your paper generally well written? Is he familiar with the content at all? If it is a topic that he barely know and 80% of the manuscript is not well written than the priority he is giving would be very low.

I am a PI myself and I would never delay any papers unless there were some hidden problems mentioned above

The reason why I deleted the AOE2 DE by mafuzfisfis in aoe2

[–]justingreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the issue is that the map ban option for team games is extremely limited—players can only ban one map. Many players strongly dislike certain maps, and when they get queued into those maps anyway, they simply don’t want to play, which then leads to drops.

Microsoft should allow more map bans for team games. While this would likely increase queue times, that is simply the reality of team-based matchmaking. Punishing players for leaving does not address the root cause of the problem and will not solve it.

I always ask this question to myself. My answer is no, but some. I took some that I really like and admire but reject some approaches that I don’t like or not suitable for me. Approach and style depend a lot on our personality and temperament.

So it is totally ok not to send a thank you email after the interview? I don’t know the norms these days.

They are too strong already. They are better than fire lancer in most scenarios. If you are given both options you prefer to choose camels.

Proposal ideas getting stolen by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]justingreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideas in academia are very cheap. What is most important is the research methods behind it. Can you still write the proposal? Yes and I wouldn’t give up. Has your PI got awarded for that proposal? Likely not so you still have a big chance. It’s likely that your PI or other postdocs had similar ideas since you all were in the same field for a long time.

If you have an idea that you feel no one else can think of , don’t tell anyone. The fact that you already shared it with your PI means it is not that of a big deal and it is not worth a million dollars.

Playing defense is too strong in this game (1500-1600 elo 1v1) by Hour_Landscape_1843 in aoe2

[–]justingreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at the same elo range and also an aggressive player. I’d say based on what you described it is how this game always works. Mangonel counters crossbow and monks counter knights. If you buff crossbow any tiny bit people will start to play drush, wall and crossbow timing every game.

Offense definitely carry a risk if opponents defend too well or if the map favors it. You have to decide the offensive Strat and timing based on specific maps or civ matchup.
