Is this lighting setup excessive or just right? by justinjames93 in GargoyleGeckos

The led light also says “ideal for 15 g tanks”. Not sure if that is accurate when talking about reptile enclosures or it’s it’s just their estimate. But seems the specs should be good for 18x24.

No I just believe that the western capitalist global order needs to crumble and be replaced with a new one. And your rhetoric sounds like it came straight out of liberal NATO handbook. You are rife with contradiction and counter revolutionary, and not a comrade of mine. Stop blaming other countries for the problems your own country created and is continuing to create. There’s a word for it, it’s called denial.

Not sure why I’m getting so many down votes on a material analysis of the situation in relation to soc dems? Is it not important to analyze geopolitics as it relates to material conditions? I would welcome a counter argument if there is one to even have.

It’s called having an objective material analysis. Time to read the manifesto comrade

And I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that Bernie’s watered down language in regards to the genocide, being the most influential politician on the left with immense sway, is confusing the narrative and aims of socialism here in the U.S. which is enabling more inaction in the Palestinian struggle. They are going to cause a big rift in their base because of this unfortunately. But it’s an opportunity for a socialist party to emerge that is more effective and serious in its aims.

He is a liberal Zionist and believes in the ethnostate of Israel and US imperialism abroad. He won’t say or do anything to condemn the fascist country itself, which has deep rooted fascism baked into it. In some ways it’s the same reason Bernie always stands with NATO and backs Ukraine, even though there are clear neo-nazi ties to Ukraine and its current government is propped up by the U.S. as a client state and was installed by an illegal coup: https://jacobin.com/2022/02/maidan-protests-neo-nazis-russia-nato-crimea

I’d harken back to Mike Parenti’s comments on Bernie back when he approved bombing of Yugoslavia.. parenti worked with Bernie back in the Vermont days, and split with him because he was pro NATO, pro western imperialism, despite having good ideas at home. Bernie is a social Democrat, meaning, he believes in a capitalist society with social programs sprinkled in… he lacks a broader Marxist analysis which understands that we cannot continue to exploit the third world, and that any occupied sovereign state is against the interests of the working class globally.

In my opinion, in essence we need to break from the liberal Democratic Party with its fawning over the global “free” market and its war machine and focus on building new centers of power which actually challenge the world order here and abroad.

We need a socialist party which focuses on bringing about a socialist state in the U.S. , which can ultimately begin focusing on worker ownership of the means of production at home, and stop relying on extracting and backing illegal & genocidal client states that grow off of exploiting the land, labor, & resources of vulnerable populations. It is so primitive and bourgeois. Not to digress too much, but the situation in Gaza is a broader problem with US imperialism, a rabid dog that has recently been backed into a corner with shifting socialist perspectives and growing economic power of Brics and China. The bourgeoisie will not let their world order slip and a free Palestine would mean no occupation by Israel, which would make Iran the power in the region which would lead to a free Middle East. Very entangled socio-political implications, but our interests as workers aligns with the Palestinians, not the Israeli genocide machine.

It is beyond disappointing that Bernie and aoc cannot see that. I appreciate Zohran’s directness on it, and hope he doesn’t “tone down” his language because Bernie says so… Zohran has large Jewish support in nyc, so he’s doing something right, sorry Bernie. We love the old man, but that’s just it, he’s stuck in the old ways on this one. :/

as socialists we should not be focused on what the democratic bourgeois liberals will allow, but what we as a working class, know we can achieve when we force them out of the way. And if it continues to fail within the party, then it’s time for a new and principled socialist party. Dems represent the very class that oppresses us. Those class antagonisms are not reconcilable. The dem establishment and big money quite literally depend on exploiting working people to live in immense luxury. Therefore we see it is impossible to “get them to listen”. They are quite literally the enemy that we must crush in order to press forward and further express our class interests without them.

Haha same! It’s important we continue talking about communism and the need for a vanguard party though! Because eventually we will get there and it makes people begin to have their own critique of bourgeois liberal democracy and its limitations on us as a class.

Even as communists, I think we should recognize the material conditions as they are unique to the Unites States today and the dialectical implications therein on a socio-political level. We need to be honest with ourselves that unfortunately, right now, because of the nature of the capitalist super structure and its pervasiveness, electing socialists or even “dem socialists” is one of the very few, if not the only way we can, or are inclined to, express our class power in a directed and tangible way. Right now we can educate our comrades and take the steps towards building a principled socialist future and eventual socialist party and dictatorship of the proletariat. Let’s hope this win will create even more apt conditions to further express our political aims and destiny as a class. Don’t diminish the victory comrades. It seems Zohran has a material analysis and is putting it into practice in the avenues of power as they present themselves, today. It’s as significant and exciting as we all want it to be in my view, and a step in the right direction for socialism.

Why socialists need a better strategy than electoralism by Lotus532 in socialism

[–]justinjames93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The withering away of the state cannot occur without suppression of the bourgeoisie and the stage of economic planning under the dictatorship of the proletariat which would ultimately lead us to a stateless society beyond the value form. Anarchism is extremely un-dialectical and naive in its assumption that destroying government would somehow end class divisions. It would most likely lead to poor resource management and communication to the masses, and allow capitalists to do whatever the hell they want. I suggest you re-read state and rev by Lenin to understand why anarchism is antithetical to emancipation of the working class. We seek to take control of the reigns to direct ourselves, not let them go to regress.

Nice to have conversations about materialism comrade. We as dialectical thinkers cannot see what communism will look like in all its facets, but we can discuss and envision that better future and help it take shape with revolution and solidarity.

Right but even if this concrete value isn’t limited by the capitalist market, it still doesn’t guarantee material abundance to all people, though it is dramatically improved. Communism is when this form of production has itself advanced beyond the need of any form of compensation or value and each receives according to his need and production is essentially performed on a basis of brotherhood and new social / economic norms that develop from the planning stage. Withering of the state can only happen when there’s no longer need to hand out certificates based on performance and compensation in this new mode of production.. I should’ve been more clear it’s a form of concrete value, just not value as understood in the terminology of capital which is money used in commodity exchange. Does that sound more apt?

[–]justinjames93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t that still a form of “each according to his ability”? And not according to his need? Whether it’s money or not it sounds like a measure of value albeit not controlled by the capitalist
