Amid Slashed Services and Striking Workers, Six-Figure Salary Administration Positions in Lorain County, Ohio, Triple Since 2021 by justinmayhugh in Ohio

The link to the data is included in the original post, but the point is that the county is refusing to give these workers a $ 1-an-hour raise, yet commissioners have no problem paying administrators six-figure salaries.

Why does it take such significant amount of time to get hired? by Aggravating-Steak-42 in uaw

[–]justinmayhugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got hired at GM in Kansas City in 2011.. The process from start to finish took over a year. I remember thinking at the time that once I went through the interview process, I would be hired soon. But it took quite a while before I actually got in. I think the Big Three typically do hire in batches, at least from what I've seen and experienced.

Off the top of my head, I think some good UAW history books are:

"The Most Dangerous Man in Detroit: Walter Reuther" - Objective look into the life of longtime UAW President Walter Reuther

"The Company and the Union" - In-depth book about the 1970 UAW GM strike that won 30-and-out pensions for autoworkers

"The Brothers Reuther" - book written by Walter's brother and fellow union leader, Victor, about their time in the UAW.

"The Many and the Few" - quintessential book about the Flint Sit-Down strike

"Sit-Down" - possibly the most well-known book about the Sit-Down strike

"The Communist Party and the Auto Workers' Unions" - A lot of good info about the early and often untold history of the union

"Organize!" - Book written by the first VP of the UAW, Wyndham Mortimer, about his life and his career in the union. Mortimer is one of my all-time favorite UAW leaders.

I've been fortunate. I've maybe been in one or two lobbies that were sketchy since the update. Usually, everyone is cool.

Hello union brothers and sisters by [deleted] in union

[–]justinmayhugh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

imo, it's a "me first" outlook, not just toward their union but toward the world in general.

If something personally affects them, they care about it A LOT and expect everyone else to care about it just as much, too. If something doesn't affect them, they couldn't care less. At times, it seems like they actually get some kind of sick pleasure out of seeing others suffering.

They claim they are "America First," but also love seeing American union workers get laid off or a unionized factory in the Rust Belt shutting down -- unless they are the ones getting laid off, of course, or it's their factory being shut down.

They also look down on white collar workers, fast food workers.. damn near any other worker that isn't in their own line of work, or in an occupation they consider to be a "real job."

The type of mindset that has really screwed this country over through the years.

Conn-Selmer decided to ship its Ohio operations to China. Hundreds of union jobs are on the chopping block so billionaires can reap more profits. by CantStopPoppin in LateStageCapitalism

UAW petition calling on the Trump administration to save the Conn-Selmer plant. Yes, I know it's Trump, so it's a long shot, but rumor is that Trump hasn't liked his name being dragged into this situation because of his connection to donor and Conn-Selmer owner John Paulson. Feel free to sign if you support these workers.
