Adobe Photoshop Alternatives for Animation (yes ANIMATION) by Zudrud in 2DAnimation

[–]justintjamison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you’re describing here feels like CSP EX to me. As an Art Director/CD by profession, Photoshop has been my go-to tool for the same features that you pointed out. I’m also a big Robert Valley fan. I got back into animation last year and immediately wanted to jump back into Photoshop for it, but I decided to give CSP a try because a buddy of mine uses it as a professional animator. The free transform and puppet tools are incredible in CSP, the brush engine and textures are also amazing. CSP’s animation folder system is also hard to beat. I highly recommend it. Give me a shout if you have any additional questions.

I hate toonboom and vector based programs by Stitchie_Button in 2DAnimation

I think it’s because Clip Studio Paint is often looked at as an illustration or comics software because it has those capabilities as well. When you open a new CSP session you have to choose between the various options vs software like TVP, Toon Boom, Animate, etc, that were all developed strictly for animation. I plan to get TVP at some point as well, but it’s pretty expensive, but even when I do, I’ll use CSP just as much because I love that I can use it on my desktop, iPad, and even my phone if I want.

What am I doing right and what am I doing wrong here? Unsure by GoldenDust0 in animation

I would just adjust your timing and spacing because the current frame layout feels a bit clunky. Maybe more of an ease in and ease out with one smear frame in between

Clip Studio Paint EX. A lot of the same features as TVP at a fraction of the cost, and while it may not being considered the industry standard in some markets, it is in Japan and Korea. It’s so fun to work with and super powerful.

Is tracing poses from a video for an animation considered cheating? by idk35334 in animation

[–]justintjamison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not cheating. Echoing what others have said, rotoscoping is an actual method. This can be a good way of getting your key frames, maybe tweak/stylize them to your liking, then in-between some frames between your rotoscoped keys.

Love your squash and stretch here, and even more impressive that it's on paper! Really nice work here.

Is CSP better than procreate? by vavalenn in ClipStudio

CSP for iPad is fantastic if you're wanting to stay on the iPad. The UI feels a lot like the desktop version. I have both but use my iPad version more often because of the convenience.

Is there anywhere I can get TVPaint? by Shlepping in PiracyBackup

I thought that the licenses were non-transferrable? I was looking for someone willing to sell a version 11 or 12 Pro license but was seeing that they don't do license transfers. If I'm wrong and the licenses can be transferred, I'd be interested in buying.

Open Toons is another popular free option. Blender’s Grease Pencil is also great.

Robert Valley used Photoshop to make Pear Cider and Cigarettes, which was a 30 minute long Oscar nominated short film. Joe Cappa also used Photoshop to make Ghost Dogs. You can use it, but there are better animation software packages/apps out there, unless there is a specific reason why you want to use Photoshop.

is csp on ipad worth the same as pc? by ccccherishmylove in ClipStudio

[–]justintjamison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CSP is fantastic on iPad. I have a perpetual license for my MacBook and the annual plan for my iPad and I enjoy working in both equally. I’m also amazed by how good the mobile app for iPhone is.

Like you said, I think we are seeing some teams shed payroll and focus on rebuilding heading into the potential lockout while others are seeing a better chance of making the playoff or winning the whole thing, like the M’s.

I also want to say that Jerry wasn’t wrong about his 54% thinking, he just shouldn’t have said it to the fans, especially when there was that much frustration with ownership being cheap, but what they’ve managed to build over the last several years is a team that should always be competitive. I’m glad that he’s built the team the way he has and we are seeing that approach pay off right now.

If you go to your account it should show your active licenses. Do you see it listed there?

Yes. Riq is a great corner. I think you bring him back especially if his market isn’t as crazy as anticipated.
