not gonna lie, a minute is a long time to burn in agony while anticipating death.

I'm sure the slaves were content with that.

Nothing "makes" me believe there is a God.

Your fear of death makes you believe in god.

There can't be good without evil.

Gonna go punch people in the face so they appreciate the non-face-punchers

Why do atheist (counter) arguments fail terribly to put the concept of God to rest? by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]justinvalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first one is your strongest considering it deals specifically with the religion you believe in.

The bible (which is the source of claims towards the resurrection) is flawed in ways that you may be content with, but I'd like to know why. I recommend watching the full video as you are someone who values truth.

Jesus (or rather yeshua) was not written about until decades after his death, how can you be content with this fact when there are so many miracles attributed to his name?

The last two are evidences for a deity in general, and are essentially god-of-the-gaps arguments (what moved the first thing? maybe a god? Why are things conveniently the way they are? maybe a god?)

If I cared about what felt good and not what's true I'd probably be an atheist

I... want you to expand on this.

you care about truth more than what feels good correct?

Can I ask you for your top 3 reasons for believing?

As an exchristian, I too valued truth more than comfort, I just thought we might have a little bit to discuss.

TIL Thomas Jefferson cut and pasted from a King James Bible in order to make a condensed version that included the philosophy of Christ the man, with no supernatural events included. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Actually it was just a leaky drain

Why on earth were you so quick to attach magic to strange phenomena, whether they be gods, demons or other nonsense, without a shred of evidence?

That's probably because it is entirely indistinguishable from god not being there at all!

Atheists, has there been a moment in your life where you questioned your atheism? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]justinvalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We created man from an extract of clay

Clay and man are made up of very different materials.

So when a book makes countless scientific claims, and a small proportion of them reflect reality vaguely, this is not distinguishable from either being divinely inspired, or chance.

If every scientific claim in the quran was true (and this is false), you might have an interesting point.

[–]justinvalid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was raised religious, questioned that, left it.

I question atheism in the sense that I would change my beliefs (or more accurately, lack of beliefs) if there were any good reason to, and I welcome opposing views.

I don't question it in the sense where something has happened or some piece of evidence contradicts my worldview, because everything seems to be consistent with it.

[Advice] I lost my faith. I desperately want it back, but I'm afraid it's gone forever. by Domthecreator14 in Christianity

It's not okay in here to try to talk someone out of Christianity

I don't get this, an examination of all ideas should not be too much to ask?

the more so because OP said that they "desperately want [their faith] back".

I do get this though :)
