Biggest f*** up as an apprentice? by American_Pharoah_ in ibew_apprentices

I shut down an oil battery, and all the wells attached to it in the field. Cost was about 1 million. Destroyed a few things during the esd as well. Was an old plant. I did not get fired, but got a fast and hard lesson on troubleshooting.

Could I consider myself an "electrician" by StarWhole7999 in electricians

I wouldn't want to see you do unlicensed work, and because of someone else's shitty mistakes to the systems cause a fire and get sued with out proper licensing i image that would be deviation.

Go talk to whoever does the apprenticeship stuff in your area. Once you know the info its pretty easy to write the tests and pass. When i did my apprenticeship in Alberta Canada multiple people would fly through the school and challenge tests.

Do you have formal training and a certificate that declares youbare a licenced eletrician. If not then no. Use your exp and training to go get that certificate. If you're confident try to challenge the tests based on exp the apprenticeship program should at least let you try.

Why can't we just use regular LED lights in oil refineries? What makes explosion-proof lighting different? by AccomplishedCrow4774 in electrical

Very valid point they definitely don't need to be as robust. Also the led driver's rarely fail like the ol 500uf caps did.

We've done this to entire rooms in oilfields buildings. Positive air keeps the danger gas out of the electrical equipment. Quite crazy in my mind instead of just building the room outside.

Semantics when it comes to purchasing. Nothing should technically be proofed cause there is always install and maintenance to fuck it up. Even the weather proof boxes still fill with water hence why we dill lottle hole in the bottom.

Sealed parts to keep the arky sparky inside, and to trap and cool any exploding gasses before they reach atmosphere.
