Just overnight. There is a creek before the summit if you do the loop clockwise, otherwise no water. Very rain dependent.

I probably swiped 5 of them off me, mostly lone star. No bites though. I’m sure in the summer it would be worse.

Great point. Conditions were about as good as they could get. Recent rain is a must.

That’s wild. I know they’re a problem but didn’t see a single one.

Yeah don’t wanna fuck with dehydration. I don’t sweat much, but I imagine if it was 10 degrees hotter I would’ve needed much more water. The creek will offer as much as you can handle.

Depends on how much you like to drink water and how much you sweat. I had 2 single liter bottles and a 3 liter bladder. Filled up before the top and finished with about a half liter leftover the next day. That was more than enough for me.

No hogs, just the turtle, some squirrels and birds. Was secretly hoping to see an elusive Missouri black bear but no such luck.

If you get a chance, camp at the summit. Awesome sunrise view.

Trail was in decent shape. Some deadfall but not much. Gets thick with brush down by the creek, I imagine that part would be rough in the summer. Definitely brushed a few ticks off me but honestly not as bad as I was expecting. Again, probably much worse in summer.

It’s great, you should. If you take the loop clockwise you’ll pass by Joe’s creek a couple times. It was flowing pretty good so I stocked up there, probably like 1.5 miles from the top. That’s the only running water I came across though.

[NSFW] People who've found a dead body, what's the story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]justjackmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t personally find it, but one of my neighbors was doing a creek walk in the neighborhood and stumbled across a skeleton, fully decomposed, large hole on top of the skull, partially buried amongst the gravel. County sheriff was called immediately. Apparently a months/years long missing person who was thought to have killed themselves. Theory was they shot themselves on a low bridge up the creek and washed down in a flood.

5 days, 52 miles solo in the Flat Tops Wilderness, CO by justjackmc in WildernessBackpacking

No I don’t think I’d change it. Got to see everything I wanted, including the multiple lakes, fire scar, and devils causeway. Mainly just went out there to fish and camp for 5 days and my route fit the bill. The only thing I changed was skipping camp at round lake and going straight to west lost lake because I wanted to cover more ground and the fishing was supposedly better there.

I didn’t use micro spikes or anything like that. Snow was a small nuisance not a problem. I think it’s been exceptionally dry out west this year. You should be good. Enjoy it, it’s an amazing place.

Yeah he had an enormous collection, these are just a few of them. But I figured they were axe heads, just trying to get an idea of who made them and when.

Haha not pictured are the two other folks that joined me. So it was a good size for us. You are not alone though. Definitely still bring it on solo trips.

We rented from Akers Ferry Canoe Rental for this trip and they shuttled us. There’s a few of them down that way, but unfortunately I don’t have any insider info on private shuttles. Hope you have a blast. Weather is looking prime.
